I entertained friends from out of state. Since they were not familiar with Louisiana Culture & History I took them here to the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum. What was intended to be a 1 1/2 hour walk through turned into 3 1/2 hours of a Cultural, Historical & Economic tour. This very large and well done museum takes the visitor through both geologic and cultural Prehistory of Louisiana, touches upon many facets of State history, cultural diversity, industry and agriculture that sets Louisiana apart. The building is itself historic and unique in it's archetechtural style. It has the amenities of seating at regular intervals so one might take time to enjoy a display. There are both clean restrooms and water fountains. The entire staff is both friendly and helpful. This wonderful facility is open to the public at no cost. It is a real treasure to have this...
Read moreGreat place to take the kids. Rich history presented in large display cases mounted along the wall, beautifully crafted taxidermy, and a great art room all held my 10 year old's attention quite well. I enjoyed it quite a bit too. There are great write ups offering explanations and information in every exhibit, so if you take your time and study everything, you can easily spend an hour and a half in the museum. But if you just want to walk around with your kids and look at all the cool stuff, you can spend 20 to 30 minutes and see it all. There's a circular walkway that takes you through the entire Museum, but look for the wing off to the side where they have an art gallery. Some very nice art there. There are a few nice Native American exhibits there too, including a very long thin wooden Boat carved out of the...
Read moreI went during august 2022 and there were many exhibits that shared history of Louisiana and Caddo parish. There was a Native American exhibit in a wing off the main area. I saw many artifacts that were “owned” by many people who were not native Americans. That made me a bit sad, but I’m grateful that someone took the time to research and preserve much of the history of the Native Americans. I am grateful that the state museum hosted these items ina clean and safe environment. There are also informational reports about artifacts and locations. I really enjoyed my visit overall. The restrooms were very clean as well! I sort of felt a...
