Whether it's spring, summer, fall winter. The D&L Trail is a great place To walk if you're in pretty good shape, you can walk two miles down and not even realize it cuz it's such a beautiful view. And they keep it very clean. I can honestly say the past two years. I seen one small candy wrapper and 1 Water bottle which may have fallen out of somebody's pocket one bag. I'm partially handicapped and I still managed to do at least. 1 Mile Down that back to my car. And sometimes I can go a little bit more is always something to look at I'll post a picture of a beautiful butterfly with colors I've never seen one that color. And I have a butterfly bush in my yard. There are also beautiful plants like tiger lilies. And other ones like a money tree on the trail. Spring is one of the best times to go to see the plants blooming, fall you get to see all the colors...
Read moreEpic bike ride along D&L trail from Slatington parking area. Ride along the amazing engineered former rail line that hauled coal and cement from this historic area. Canal ruins going back to 1850s and a rail line cut into the mountainside, often perched 80 to 100 feet above the Lehigh river gorge, easy ride from Slatington to Jim Thorpe and back, excellent scenic trail. Canal ruins, bridges, industry, mountains, rapids, shade and vistas, this area was once the foundation to early industry in America, still old re.nants of coal, steel and cement industries mixed with old Canal infrastructure. One of the best PA bike rides. Plenty of places to stop, rest rooms, food, safe trail well...
Read morePros: Peaceful, quiet. Serene. Came across an abandoned airfield. In the distance you can see where I went the Saturday before. We saw several different birds, Cardinals, Blue Jays, possibly an Eagle. Not an expert, but it was massive and not a hawk. We parked across Sal's Pizza. Mmm. The smell. Trail also runs along the Lehigh but for most of the trail from where we were, you could only hear it.
Cons: More suitable, potentially perfect for biking. It's basically a corridor with nothing much to see besides the airfield. Bugs. Did not properly plan for those.
Disclaimer. Saw spray that read some kinda gang name with a trail leading next to it. I survived cause I'm not that white person...
