I recently visited the Frazetta Museum for the first time since its reopening in 2015. My last visit was over twenty years ago, before Frank senior's death and before his work was divided among his children. I didn't know what to expect or what might be left to display. I was very pleasantly surprised.
The museum is small (as it always was) but showcases a remarkable cross section of his work. It contains art done over his entire lifetime, from age three to post-stroke work done shortly before his death. It also has work done for a wide variety of commercial and personal projects. This obviously includes many of the paperback and magazine covers that most fans are familiar with; but also early comic book, comic strip and film work; as well as pieces done for display in the family home and even sketches done from live models (something that I was not aware that Frazetta did).
There is also a nice selection of items available for purchase from the gift shop, for a variety of tastes and budgets. I personally bought two of the fine art prints and was impressed with their quality (note: these were not on display for space reasons and you will need to ask for them).
Finally, I can't express how friendly and accommodating the Frazetta family is and how they try to make your experience as rewarding as possible. They give insightful tours discussing each piece and providing details that you likely will not have heard before. They are happy to hear about your connection with Frank’s art and the impact it may have had on you. I had very nice conversations with both Lori (Frank’s daughter-in-law) and Frankie (Frank’s grandson) and left feeling very good that Frank Frazetta’s legacy is in good hands! I hope to visit again and to...
Read moreThis was just an amazing experience, and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. If you are a fan of fantasy or sci-fi you need to experience this museum. Frazetta's influence of modern fantasy and geek culture can not be overstated, and his works are just beautiful to see in person. But that really was just half of what makes this museum so special. The experience of meeting Lori and Frank Jr. was what made this visit so perfect. The museum sits next door to where the artist used to live and is a gorgeous estate. We arrived a little after it opened and were met by Lori (Frank Frazetta's daughter-in-law). She was incredibly nice, and it was clear how much she really loved Frank Frazetta both as a human and as an artist. The stories she told of him as a man, and as a grandfather were what really captured me. I have seen Frazetta's works for decades, but this was my first chance to meet someone with such and intimate knowledge of him as a man. She answered all of our questions and she was interested in what had brought us to enjoy Frazetta's works. We were also able to meet Frank Jr. and though we did not get the chance to talk with him as much he was ingratiating and helpful, and could not have been nicer. It was the sort of experience you just don't get in any other museum. If you are in the area, take the...
Read moreAbsolutely enjoyed my time visiting this incredible museum. My wife and I drove from Winchester, VA specifically for this opportunity to visit the museum that pays tribute to our favorite artists legacy and work, Frank Frazetta. Lori Frazetta very wonderfully showed us around the museum and is extremely knowledgeable about Frank's work and shared information about the paintings and various pieces of work in order to help establish context about how Frank worked or how he got inspiration for his ideas. We both felt very welcome by Lori and the Frazetta family and left knowing we will be returning annually, maybe even more often in order to be able to continue enjoying this great experience as long as the museum is open. The price of admission is a 15$ donation per person (absolutely worth it) and the prices on merchandise are well priced and we both wished we had save more money because we wanted to get so much more. Again we'll be coming back alot so we will have more opportunities to get art prints and shirts and books. Dont think twice about visiting the museum. For yourself or your children. The Frazetta museum is important and its no surprise the previous reviews have all been 5 stars. The Frazetta family cares deeply about Frank and Ellie and their legacy and it shows. See you...
