This is one of the best spot of Pinnacles NP. If you arrive the park early (before 10AM), you can drive to the Bear Gulch Day Use parking lot directly and park there. If you come later, there is a shuttle from Visitor Center to the Bear Gulch Day Use park. There are two ways to reach the reservoir. One is Moose Trail, the other one is through the Bear Gulch Cave. Personally I prefer the Bear Gulch Cave trail, which requires you to carry a flash light, because some part of the cave is really dark. But I saw people just used their smart phone's flash, looks fine. There is a steep, narrow stair steps to reach the base of reservoir. Once you reach there, it is a really scenic view. Around the lake, there are several other trails you can hike. You will also see the people hang on the middle of the rocks, yes, lots of rock climbers in the park The round trip is just a little short of 2.0 miles, it took about 1 hour and half. During the winter time, the temperature is about 60 degree. In the summer, it is easily over 90. So be sure to bring a...

The trail offers a very pretty view as you hike along rock boulders, under the cave, and finally arrive at the beautiful reservoir. Take breaks along the way to watch people climbing the rocks. Hiking shoes and hiking sticks are recommended due to the various rocky terrains. Don't forget to pack plenty of water and a picnic to enjoy by the reservoir, offering the best view of the park. While you might encounter wild birds or squirrels wanting to get a taste of your picnic, it’s best to say no and keep them wild for their own safety. I love having my breakfast on top of the rocks and soaking in all the beauty. Hiking during cooler weather is preferable as the summer temperatures can...
Read moreI had an amazing hiking experience at The Monolith during our Bear Gulch Reservoir trail adventure! This hidden gem is nestled near the end of Bear Gulch, accessible via Moses Spring or Rim Trail. The proximity to the reservoir dam and Bear Gulch Caves adds to the excitement.
Besides The Monolith, there are other impressive monoliths and colonnades amidst massive walls and lonely pillars. Just remember to pack lots of water, and consider cooler weather for a more enjoyable hike; summer can get scorching! It's a fantastic spot for an action-packed...
