I love this place and go here all the time. I would have given 5 stars, but the traffic on the weekends has been really bad lately. The painted arrows are faded and signs inadequate, so people are going the wrong way and parking where they shouldn't. There have also been boats staying tied up at the boat dock for extended periods of time adding to the congestion. Makes launching a boat even more stressful than usual. I hope they can correct the issues and manage the traffic flow better. Update: Dominion Energy has made some investments that's I am very grateful for. They have repaved, repainted all of the traffic arrows, added signs, and are enforcing no cars on the boat landing side. This has greatly improved the experience. Thank you!

We were in town for the weekend looking for public access to the lake where we could bring our dog. This place was a big letdown. The shoreline has big rocks up and down and swimming is against the rules. They turned a blind eye to people wading in the areas near the stone steps, but it is the only spot where you can get in the water at all. There is a nice view of the water from the picnic tables, but if you plan to spend any time actually in the lake you’ll be disappointed. The google photo depicting a sandy beach is from the wrong location!

Dominion Energy has a lot to do at this park. It's very dated. But with the way some people live in this area, they'd trash it anyway, disrespect the animals and facilities, pee on the bathroom floors, continue to toss their cigarette butts on the ground, play loud rap, typical for weekend parties because I've seen it. The fishing pier is very old, the bathrooms are ancient, the older pine trees provide shade, but the roots are above ground in many places, causing trip hazards for children. Parking will easily fill up during the summer. It's actually best to go somewhere else to enjoy the lake. It's okay in the colder months to park and relax when you can find a parking spot and certain folks aren't blaring their music or revving their muscle cars. It's sometimes difficult to turn left out of the parking lot especially during weekly rush hour. Very dangerous turning...

I truly love coming to this Lake Murray location. However, I have a concern about a few things upon my entrance to the park this morning. First of all, my husband and I were asked to pay $5.00 prior to the start of the park hours, which is at 10 am on weekends. We actually arrived to the park about 9;15am. We were informed that if we had to leave the park and returned within the same day, that we would have to pay five additional dollars to re-enter. I asked the gentleman who checked us in at the entrance if I needed to use the restroom and was not satisfied with the one's at the park due to sanitation purposes, would that be ok for me to leave and return without having to pay. He told me that I would have to pay again and did not show any consideration. Lastly, my final concern is that I think the $5.00 fee should cover for the entire day as it was in place...

The dam doc launch area was a total disaster yesterday. Boats and trucks lines up for hours due to loitering and boat rentals. It was a dangerous situation. I witnessed multiple people receiving injuries due to the dangerous situations that arose due to the boat rentals and the people who rented them not knowing what to do and no type of order. I witnessed park employees not addressing any issues. Instead they would turn and walk back up the the shack and sit down. 3 people to run a shack.... Lexington cops showed up and did not even go down to the dock area to address any of the problems. Vehicles driven down to the picnic area that would have to drive across sidewalks to get there. The employees of the park did nothing. If something does not change, there will be bigger...
