I’ve been going to SOTB since I was a child. I still take my children once a year to get fireworks at there fireworks shop. I had not actually done the Sombrero tower until very recently with my kids. Many times I had tried in the past it was closed or we didn’t have time. It’s a very old structure and does feel mildly top heavy and nerve racking, as you can feel it moving with a good bit of wind or a lot of people up top. It is nice that the elevator is windowed and you can watch yourself go up. Although once at the top, the views aren’t all that spectacular, maybe if they dazzled their roofs up with the Pedro style or had another large structure around it would make it more of a cool spot. I mean they’ve got billboards for miles up and down the highway, but zero marketing on the roofs where they have a giant tower to see the whole park. What up with that?! Additionally there is no designated “photo spot” or “selfie area” up on the roof against the center of the sombrero. All in all I was a little unimpressed with the whole experience. But we got some...

After exploring the inactive amusement park nearby, I prayed I could access the Sombrero Tower...and they were answered! The observation tower, and the arcade below it are open, and a ride in the elevator is $4...plus maybe some quarters for the games, as well as for the binocular vision at the top. The tower stands 300 feet above the town, and offers some nice views of the surrounding area, I-95, and both Carolinas. There is a chainlink fence around the top...as for a time limit for being up there, I'm not sure if there is one, but I was satisfied with the 10 minutes or so I spent. You may be asked to wait for the elevator attendant (very nice guy); my wait was maybe 5 minutes. We had about 6 people in the cab; a bit crowded but not uncomfortable. Definitely...

While it is stuck back in time, this place is worth the stop especially at sunset to take a ride up to the top of the sombrero tower to take in the spectacular view.

The bathrooms are normally really clean and many times there is an attendant to hand out napkins and such.

There is an area to let dogs out to use the bathroom and the parking lot is plenty big so it's not usually to crowded.

Inside the tower, there is an arcade.

I do NOT suggest the food at the little cafe near the tower but I've heard many great things about the steakhouse...
