The waterfall is easy to access once you find a place to park along the very narrow road. There’s no hiking necessary, you can see the waterfall just a few steps off the road. You can walk out into the upper part of the falls from the trail and there’s a shallow pool you can soak in (depending on the season) right above the lower falls.
The drive there and back is interesting because you’re bumping down a tiny road along the edge of Fallen Leaf Lake that is just wide enough for one vehicle. When you approach oncoming traffic, one of you has to pull over in a wide spot and let the other pass. You drive by some very interesting and expensive lake houses and their boat docks. It’s all private property along the lake, so no parking except at the waterfall. You can also stop at the marina at the south end of the lake and visit their general store and rent kayaks and/or boats.
There’s a hiking trail up to the Angora Lookout, but I’m not sure where it starts at Fallen Leaf Lake. We talked to people a couple days earlier at the top who had hiked up from the lake, so I know it’s possible. It’s all quite beautiful and well worth the drive from...
Read moreWhile visiting Lake Tahoe we visited Glen Alpine Falls. The falls is approximately 65 to 70 ft tall and located at 6560 ft above sea level. The road to Glen Alpine Falls is one way and under developed. So it takes a lot of time to reach Glen Alpine falls since you have to wait at various points for the cars driving other way.
After reaching the falls we were stopped a lot ago due the gravel road. So we hiked to the falls. But we didn't get any parking, so we had to park on the road. So you can imagine in an one way road two car is moving and you are parking your car on the roadside, how difficult that is. I don't know why the road condition is that bad here where this magnificent falls is standing!
When we reached to the falls, it was its full brim and roaring with its cascading water fall. I was at the end of the falls. You can also hike to the upper level of the falls.
In summary, Glen Alpine Falls is a natural marvel, but the road conditions and parking challenges marred the journey. If infrastructure improves, it could enhance the overall...
Read moreWe visited in the first week of October. I know that water flow is lower in the fall. Maybe in the spring when the snow melt is flowing rapidly this would be as good as some people described it, but it's not a large waterfall.
The road in and out is in very poor condition with lots of large potholes and it's very narrow in several spots. Traffic was cooperative along the route and at this time of year pretty light. If it had been busy season and we did the drive with lots of traffic only to see a small waterfall at the end we would have been upset. As it was we were just disappointed that we wasted the time.
Maybe we've just seen too many beautiful waterfalls in National Parks and in State Parks in MN and other places that have real waterfalls, but we recommend not wasting your time and effort on this one. If it wasn't for the beautiful view of the lake on the drive in and out this would be a 1 star review. And of course you can't stop and park anywhere along the way before the falls because it's all...
