I have been coming here since I was in Fourth grade in the mid 1970"s when I was a Cub scout, then an eagle scout, then a scout master. This place WAS Great. It looked like a place cut out of nature. I last walked the new shortened path in May 2023. There were people walking their pets! This trail was not intended for pets. There used to be a high path and a low bridge path. The high path is now paved. People riding Bicycles ! Also it is now crowded. When I was In High School circa early 1980's, we used to have beachers here and take our dates here. Because you were alone and did not run into anyone.
The Milwaukee County park service decided to remodel Seven bridges in about 2010-2012. Originally, Seven Bridges had Seven Large Wooden Log Bridges. WOW, I wonder where they got the name from ? It is now only four bridges. Plus one on them , the one nearest the lake is an ugly gratified steel eyesore. It needs to go. Two middle Bridges are small and pathetic. Only the original entrance bridge remains but with extensive treated lumber added. The park service took the Cheap route. They should of repaired the original design an not modified it. Plus The park service added a shortcut on the south side to the Steel bridge and beach. This shortcut defeats the entire purpose of the nature walk/hike that Seven bridges was made for in the first place. They removed or covered up all the original Stone steps and tree root steps. The place now looks Man made. Can not call it "Seven Bridges" anymore. This place was Great. I give the Milwaukee County park service one star. Seven Bridges was a conservation project in the early 1900. Men with axes and stone cutters built a glorious place to control erosion. They deserve a plaque with their names on it. It was a place lost in time. You had to hike the trails and steps, and maybe cross the stream on one of the fallen logs to find the end, the beach. It was fun. Lovers carved their names into the bridges. Those names are all gone. Legend has it, you had to kiss your Boyfriend/Girlfriend whenever you crossed a bridge. AND if you kissed Seven times you would get happily married. SO, Thank you Milwaukee County park service for killing that legend and eradicating local history. Yes the place is nice but not as nice as it was, Seriously. I felt cheated while...
ย ย ย Read moreAwesome place in the area to get outside to experience & enjoy nature with or without other. Great place to hike for families with or without little ones or even dogs, more advanced / experienced hikers or casual strolls through the woods and or along the lakefront. It is a fairly large park with plenty to do and see. There are places for every size and kind of cookout that one could have with pavilions and party buildings you are able to rent out and use. I almost forgot to mention the awesomely huge play ground there which has a very nice selection of different equipment for kids of all ages to enjoy and use. With all of that said it is definitely a great place to bring your family & or kids, spend some time with 1 or a group of friends or even get out and enjoy some time and nature to yourself while getting away from the city feel and getting some fresh air. You can forget very easily when you are there that you are in the city/Milwaukee area and just how close the hustle...
ย ย ย Read moreHidden gem in Milwaukee is SO right. This place is so beautiful. We entered from the covered bridge and when you get to the stairs taking you down towards the beach by way of this mini 'gorge' (for lack of a better word), it felt like we were entering a mystical forest. Sounds cheesy but trust me, this place is beautiful. I couldn't believe it. I have lived in Milwaukee my entire life and I had never seen or heard of this place!
We only did the main loop (kind of a short hike) for lack of time but I will definitely be returning to explore the branched off routes. It's a shaded trail which is great if you are looking to do something outdoorsy on a hot day with or without the kids. Leashed dogs are allowed too, so that's a plus. There are also bathrooms and a little picnic area near one of the parking lots (look on a park map bc Idk where we were exactly when we saw that). Be warned though, there are a...
