BUYER Beware. All sales are final. You are totally responsible for knowing the condition of the item. Barridoff is a small outfit that does not inspect the item or provide a condition report unless you ask for it. They represent the seller similar to a real estate agent representing the seller. Perfect for unscrupulous sellers. Do not buy unless you have this condition report. It is totally different from purchasing a similar item on EBay where I have found that most sellers freely disclose flaws in an item and will accept returns if you are dissatisfied. The seller has total anonymity and does not have to disclose or be concerned with their reputation. Standard ethics that we feel others should follow as sellers do not apply here. So legally Barridoff is totally protected so buyer beware. I am writing this review and giving it one star because even the auction house may miss something and there is no recourse and sellers can hold back what they know about the item and again you have no recourse. Do not rush and do not buy without a complete condition report because all that matters is the legality and due diligence. Ethics and morals play no part. I found a good size tear in an etching after an online purchase with no recourse. Seller was a scammer no better than those who send the scam emails and phone calls. I did not request a condition report. Hope this helps you. Best bet is to closely inspect the item yourself and do not buy online at all. Barridoff needs a policy that states that sellers must disclose any know flaws.
Read Barridof's answer and continue to believe that they should require sellers to disclose upfront major flaws such as a torn artwork. I also continue to believe that ethically this is the right thing to do. Obviously the auction house does not agree with the need for sellers to disclose major flaws. They most likely do not do this as it would impact their...
Read moreMy experience at this "fabulous" gallery is truly unforgettable. First, they were so excited when they received my artwork for auction. One of their appraisers or so called "expert" was asking me fees to appraise a simple painting that they couldn't identify after i have waited for more than six months. They were so "efficient" and unbelievably smart that they need to ask other galleries opinion. My ordeal at this gallery made the whole thing so stunning! Lol! They have lack of courtesy, poor communication, and unprofessional. Totally waste of time. James D Julia auction galleries also located in Maine is way much better, nicer and professional. I was very glad I made a good decision to pull out my painting. Never again to trust or deal with this...
