Such a big shame that SW voters turned down the chance to add football, soccer, and challenge type softball fields near the current legion baseball field at Nevers. What a huge and immediate need this town has to for active-rec designated areas for this exact purpose. That's the council's JOB.
It's even more of a shame that this had to go to referendum. It should have been a simple needed capital improvement issue, but SW has never seen fit, unlike other well managed towns, to have an allocated budget for these and other capital needs. The town council is scared to make any large decision, and always throws it back to the citizens - who voted them in office in the first place! Why even have a council if they don't want to make decisions?
SW is just an unbelievably NIMBY town: ONE family blocks the use of an already constructed Union soccer field. Seniors who virtually live in the MIDDLE of Nevers Park, also designated for "Active Rec", lead the fight against any improvements. Residents adjoining Lawrence Road spread lies and fly banner-toting airplanes around with false and misleading info about the large park area donated to the town specifically for that very purpose.
The SW old-timers block the recreational use of The Priest Property even tho it, too, is designated for active rec. AND the town fails to maintain it, leaving an ugly graffiti ridden house in full view for all to see. What, they can't afford some paint??

Read moreNevers Park is one of the best-kept secrets in South Windsor! It’s a perfect place for families, walkers, joggers, and anyone who loves spending time outdoors. The park is beautifully maintained with wide walking trails, open fields, a great playground area, and lots of shaded spots for picnics or just relaxing.
The playground is especially impressive – clean, safe, and suitable for both younger and older kids. There’s also a fantastic wooden climbing structure that kids love. If you’re into sports, there are fields and courts for basketball and baseball. And the Veterans Memorial inside the park adds a respectful and educational touch.
Plenty of parking is available, and the park always feels peaceful, even when it’s a little busy. Whether you’re there for a walk, some family time, or just to enjoy nature, Nevers Park offers a calm and welcoming environment.
Highly recommended for locals and...
Read moreI have never been here until recently and what a treasure I have been missing out on. I took my new dog to the Bark Park as it was highly rated. I then realized there was so much more here to do. Sports fields a pavilion a great walking trail a wildflower meadow skate park and playground just to name some of the amenities. That particular day there were vendors and live music. We enjoyed the crushed blue stone path that goes in and out of the woods after running around freely with the other dogs. Not only is it great exercise for my pup it's also great for me. I can appreciate all the hard work that is out into this park. I particularly liked the tree plantings that include a European Weeping Beech and a Dawn Redwood. I will be back a lot more to explore this...
