My wife and I recently moved Woodbury with our college age daughter and our teenage son. While it wasn't a factor in our decision to purchase, the house we bought has a Hot Springs brand hot tub that is about eleven years old. I got to wondering what was needed to maintain it properly. The prior owners left some chemicals, accessories and brochures, but no manual. I've never owned or maintained a hot tub.
I contacted Leisuretime of Southbury, where I thought the tub was purchased, and I dealt with Casey, the owner. Casey and an employee, Barb, coached me through draining the tub, filling it, testing the water and treating it, which was a three day ordeal I started on a Thursday.
On Friday, I discovered a leak inside the tub's access panel coming from the valve controlling the jets. I called Leisuretime and spoke to Barb. Casey was off for the day. I asked about parts for the valve, but Barb wasn't sure and suggested I speak to Casey on Saturday. Later on Friday, I discovered a second leak coming from a check-valve. I removed it and brought it to Leisuretime. Despite her lack of familiarity with the parts, Barb took it and tried comparing it to parts in their inventory and found me a replacement, which I installed to stop the second leak. By that time, however, the leaking had shorted the system damaging a pump and causing the breaker to trip repeatedly.
On Saturday I called Leisuretime and spoke to Casey and scheduled a service call for the following Monday, but Casey said that, if the day allowed, he'd try to get to us later Saturday. Sure enough, later that same Saturday, Casey came out, spent a couple of hours working on the tub, including a couple trips back to the shop for parts, and got the tub running. Aside from some chemicals and the check-valve I purchased, all the time and service Leisuretime provided up to this point, including a couple visits by me to their store and about six calls, was free of charge. Furthermore, given the time Casey spent on the hot tub and the parts replaced, if it had been a service call for repairs to some other appliance, I would have expected charges far exceeding what I was charged for coming out, on a weekend, and getting the tub running so we could use it that night.
I learned that Leisuretime has been locally owned by Casey's family for thirty years. If they treat all their customers the way they treated us, it's no wonder they've lasted that long. While owning a hot tub wasn't something we were planning on, for as long as we do own one, Leisuretime will be our go-to vendor for service and supplies and, if and when necessary, a...
Read moreIve been a skier all of my life and I wanted to get my family starting to ski, wife and young girls (3 and 6 year olds).
I was recommended to check out Leisuretime of Southbury by a friend of a friend and since I live fairly close by, gave it a try.
I was very pleased with the shop they have. They have good brands and nice apparel and it is all setup very nicely.
The employees were all very friendly and helpful, especially with my wild little girls being there. It is a family owned business and the care to attention and detail shows. As mentioned, the employees really made this a great experience. They were very good with the kids, helpful to get them sized up. Helpful for any questions we had and also to help find the apparel that we needed. Never once did I feel pressured to buy anything nor did I feel any frustration with them as I tried to control my kids the best I could (they just thought everything in the store was so exciting). They even offered them stickers at the end...
I thought that the rental prices for skis and boots were very fair and the equipment was in good shape. They also offer a rental program for future growth, but I just need to be sure my girls enjoy the sport before fully committing.
To sum it all up, it was a very enjoyable visit and I am glad that I found a ski shop that I can go to for all of my needs. I will...
Read moreI am happy with Leisuretime being able to provide the replacement pump for my Caldera Spa. There were a couple of minor glitches that kept this review from being 5 stars. The first, after I ordered my replacement pump I was told I would get a phone call when it came in, about week to get it. After about 10 days I decided to call and found out that the service tech took my pump, so they called him and had it returned to the store.
The second issue was when I picked it up I stood at the desk while a sales person was decussing a pool with another group of people and I waited for someone to come to the counter, so after about 5 minutes I thought I heard voices from behind a door to the my right so I tapped on the counter and found there were 2 ladies in the room. The pump was put on the counter and I noticed one side of the box was crushed, the sales person opened it and we looked at the pump while it was still in the box, and no damage was visible. However, when I went to install it today I found the exhaust housing was cracked, not a major issue, so I put some epoxy on it and installed it.
Get the minor issues corrected and this would be a perfect review. I will...
