Do NOT stay here. The very worst hotel we have ever seen. Falling apart, unclean, disgusting. Except for the pro shop, bar area and restaurant (which was empty when we returned from eating elsewhere about 7:30 pm), the rest of the hotel needs massive improvements--like gutting and completely remodeling it. |No elevator--and we were on the third floor. Carpeting on the main stair was buckled and dangerous. Hallways were uneven and easily tripped upon--esp. for a sight-impaired person like myself.|The stench of bleach as we entered the room was overwhelming. The bubbles in the wallpaper hid some kind of mold I don't want to imagine. Black stains all along the baseboards. Stains on the ceiling, and the smoke detector (I doubt it was ever updated) was hanging from the ceiling--a fire inspector's nightmare. All the paint was chipping off the hot water radiator. The toilet lid was up to heighten the fact it had not been cleaned since last used!|When my wife called to get us a different room, staff were apologetic and accommodating. When we borrowed the key to see the room that was available (also on the third floor) we walked by barely locked, battered double doors, with a sign that read "Danger. Shaft." We didn't dare approach.|The "new" room was slightly better. The smell of bleach was replaced by an oily, cologne air "freshener," so heavy it kept us awake throughout the night. Stains on the ceiling above the bed, empty nails in the wall above the bed where art work might have been. Dark stains along the baseboards, and chipped paint on the radiator. (I took picts of this room, but I couldn't attach them).|Later, the whole feeling was like Jack Nicholson was about to break through the door and announce "Here's Johnny!" We didn't sleep well.|The staff were empathetic, but what could they do--they have no say in how the owners make their decisions, or non-decisions.|The wonderful golf courses also need a lot of TLC. Donald Ross would not approve. The cart paths are in horrible shape. |Overall, the owners should be ashamed. A great golf course, but I won't be back to stay at the hotel, and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.||This hotel needs someone to gut and update this building into what it could be. The course...

A sense of humor and history are both useful if you choose to stay at Mid Pines. Without them you are sure to be disappointed. From a distance the structures retain their classic lines and appeal. As you get closer you see the 100 year old building probably hasn't been painted in 50+ years. Entering gives you the 1920s feeling that just around the corner lurks F. Scott Fitzgerald waiting to have a drink with you. ||The carpets are worn, stained and don't match where they've been partially replaced especially on the stairs. The rooms are furnished they way your great grandmother did her house and with her furniture. The one exception is a very large, comfortable king size bed. The bathroom is equally dated with fixtures decades old. There are light switches to nowhere, no easily accessible outlets to plug your devices into. The dehumidifiers and Damprid containers in your room successfully keep out mold and bad odors. Part of the retro-chic atmosphere are large blisters (2-3") of missing paint. Yet everything works the way it did 50-100 years ago.||Having said all that, the facility and rooms are clean and functional. The service is pleasant and efficient, the views out the back looking over the putting green and the 18th hole are beautiful.||The facility is in total need of a complete makeover. However, if you come for the golf and to be well treated and are willing to take this old building for what it is, your visit will be enjoyable. If this isn't your cup of tea the Pinehurst area has plenty of...

3 rating only because all 3 courses are very good. Straight forward, good conditions, greens a little slow but roll good. The cart guys and starters were great, very nice & appreciative of the business. Halfway houses at all courses were great. There’s no beverage cart or coolers on carts. |The pre-trip reservation process and service is horrible. They will not return a call or email. Very unorganized. The agent was not familiar with the courses offered in the package or the accommodations. The check-in process was a disaster. The golf shop staff was not very friendly, like we were a burden. |The “Villa” we stayed in should be condemned. The rear deck was not safe to stand on. The place has never been updated since built in the 50’s. Bathrooms are original, and not clean. The villa has 9 beds but hot water for 1, we had 8 people. We had to shower at the golf courses to get a hot shower. The Inn seemed similar to the Villa. The common areas are very tired. There’s a difference in “rustic & historic” vs. “tired & worn out”. The owners have obviously put resources in the golf courses. The facilities need to be next. The place has potential because the golf is great. Bottom line: Stay up at Talamore or Mid-South and book these courses in your package until they can upgrade the...

Course is always in fantastic shape except not sure this year I can quite go that far. Tee boxes decent, fairways decent when not wet, greens were like carpet just rolled wonderful and nice quick pace. Cart path only on holes 1,3,4,5 (half from pond and in) 16 & 18. We have played here every year and every time these same holes are soft/wet/balls plugging. Had a ball plug on #3 in the rough, yes the rough! That should tell you how wet it was there! You think they would fix this by now for crying out loud. Now you might say that's because they got rain last week, but they all have ground under repair and sod laid out and marked. That didn't happen overnight also but sister course Pine Needles literally across the street was pristine. No signs of rain, wetness nothing, and we played there a day before Mid Pines! The worst part is it's the same management! If you haven't played Pine Needles you probably will think it is a fantastic track, which it is but nowhere near what it was years ago or what it could be!

If there was an option for 3.5 stars, I would choose that. First thing, the staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and top notch. The course layout is tight and holes are right on top of one another. This is not bad, but often times a slightly errant shot to the green (i.e., 10 yards long) is on the next tee. It certainly makes for a great course to walk and I will probably do so in the future. The layout is appealing (4 stars) and challenging. The wind played havoc on shots especially when they got above the tree line. My reservation in ranking the experience higher is the simply the cost of $175 during early spring when the over-seeding has not yet fully come in. The shape of the course was fine for this time of year, but not for the cost. Coming from Raleigh, we could play the Duke course AND the UNC Finley course together for less. With that said, juniors do play free with a paying adult fee. Thanks to the staff for alerting me of this great deal!

If you're in the Pinehurst area, you're probably playing golf, so I won't waste any time explaining how fantastic a place this part of the country is to chase the little white ball around. You could argue until you're blue in the face which courses are best, but you can't beat the proximity that Mid Pines Inn offers to two of the best in the area: Mid Pines & Pine Needles. Mid Pines Inn doesn't try to be anything that it's not and you're better off for it. You're not here for amenities or the spa, you're here to play amazing golf and relax afterwards with close friends and some drinks. This is where Mid Pines excels. The patio and bar are a great place to unwind and the staff understands their guests mindset. Want to putt at midnight with a couple beers? Go right ahead. For a very reasonable price, you can stay literally footsteps away from both courses, making this the perfect HQ for your Pinehurst golf trip.
