**ETA- the nature center is OPEN again!! We love what they've done with the revision of the inside of the building post-Harvey! There are so many critters to see! There is a coloring/reading station, a fun carpet and animals for pretend play, books, puzzles, and interactive screens for learning about nature and future activities! My kids really love going here!
My only complaint now is that you have to reserve your spot for upcoming activities through Facebook. Not everyone has(or wants) a Facebook account. We have missed out on participating twice because of this feature. We have sadly decided to stop trying to join the activities. I'm more interested in being active outside than being attached to Facebook.**
We used to love coming here when we had free family time. The trails are mostly open again, but the Nature Center is not fully remodeled after Hurricane Harvey flooded it. Wear mud-approved shoes if you plan to hike. There are several patches of mud throughout the trails, but they are otherwise dry and pleasant.
My kids and I enjoy walking around, and admiring the wildlife. And we LOVE the Little Free Library! The picnic area is a great place to stop for a lunch break. But, don't plan on using the bathrooms- they always seem to be locked. I'll amend my rating once the Nature...

Honestly, this place is a gem!
I did not know that this place was less than 15 minutes away from me for the longest time, but I'm so happy that I do now. The hours are hard for children that go to school, and but I am looking forward to visiting more during summer break. They have a great little exhibit inside that is great especially because it is free and has AC. If it's open at that time that you go hiking, it's a great place to rest for a bit. You're able to look around the exhibit and see all the different amphibians that they have they also have a little reading nook. It's just a great little place to explore.
The walking trail is really great and we especially like the walking area around the pond behind the playground.
The playground is fun place for the kids to burn off some energy. I wish we had more shaded playgrounds in our area, we really need it, but I am happy that we have this cute little play area and museum nestled in our neck...
Read moreGreat place to walk, jog and run! My second time here and love it. The first time it was hot and humid in Houston BUT being out here with ample shade didn't feel crazy hot. Today's run was a little damp because of recent rains but the trail was still compact and dry because of the tree overhangs. Some patches of water on the trail but not bad. I have waterproof shoes so I was able to run through the shallow spots with no issues. There is a "beach" trail that we walked last time...it hadn't rained yet, so it was a little lacking visually but I'm certain with current and future rains, the view will be much better. The "beach" area is actually pretty large, lots of soft sand, perfect for dogs 😁 and lunges. Lots of birds and squirrels in the preserve, have yet to see any larger animals, and there are snakes here, but I've been lucky enough to...
