Concerning Food Handling Practices at Amish at Columbus Market
I've been a frequent visitor to the Amish vendors at the Columbus Market, but I feel compelled to share some serious concerns about their food handling practices. During multiple visits, Iāve observed practices that raise hygiene red flags.
For instance, I recently saw a man behind the chocolate counter adjusting and placing chocolates without wearing gloves. His bare fingers came into contact with numerous pieces that unwitting customers would eventually purchase. Similarly, Iāve noticed vendors accepting cash and credit cards with bare hands, only to immediately serve food to the next customer without washing their hands or wearing gloves.
Most troubling was an incident at the pickle stand. A young boy used a ladle to scoop pickles into a container, but after filling it, he used his bare fingers to push the pickles down and seal the lid. This lack of basic food safety measures is alarming.
While the products might look appealing, I strongly encourage anyone visiting to pay close attention to their food handling practices before making a purchase. Hygiene is a cornerstone of food safety, and I hope these vendors will take steps to improve their practices to ensure the health and safety of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a tough one. I'll say this first: Get the donuts. The baked goods are ridiculously good. You won't be disappointed.
Much of the stuff is prepackaged. Is it Amish made? Who knows but you'll pay a premium for it regardless. That doesn't mean it won't be delicious but it may not be what you're paying for an I find that misleading.
And that's why this is such a tough review. There's a candy section with regular candy. No big deal. But there's also fresh fudge back there too
There's a little cafe up in the front. They'll cook your sandwich just like any cafe. But $5 for a sausage, egg, and cheese on a hamburger roll? Is it fresh Amish bread? Did they make the sausage. Probably not. It was disappointing. But the coffee was awesome!
A soft pretzel is $2.50. Nothing special. Very Auntie Anne-ish. Small, greasy. Is that a good price. I guess.
The reality is that everything they sell here is good. Is it what you're paying for? The Amish make great stuff. But I'm not sure you're getting what you think you're getting, and paying a premium for it.
I'll just say this:...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLast month I bought muffins and read the ingredient list because my daughter has a nut allergy. Nuts were not listed at all. Thankfully I ate the muffin first because there were nuts in it. Today I was back and went to Esterās bakery and asked to speak with someone in charge. The man said he was and when I told him what happened he went to get a muffin label and showed me that nuts were in the list. When I showed him the picture of my label and that nuts were NOT listed, he scoffed at me and said I only bought the 2 pack! I said that the ingredients were the same regardless of how many I bought and the guy had a āyeah so whatā attitude. I said āso you nearly kill my kid and you donāt care?ā He then ignored me and turn to the people in line behind me and rang them up pretending I no...
