I was the only visitor on a gray Friday afternoon, but that meant I received special attention from the sole museum worker who led me on a guided tour and cheerfully answered all my questions to the best of their ability. I particularly liked hearing about Wessyngton Plantation and how the ancestor of some of the Washington slaves, John F. Baker, had been able to put together a comprehensive geneaology of slaves from the area based on records now kept in the State Archives.
