Herb Brooks National Hockey Center — Attraction in St. Cloud

I just love going to these games. The atmosphere is wonderful and the view on the ice is great from litterally anywhere. SCSU Men's Hockey is playing some solid hockey. Their puck passing is so good. Consessions are reasonable and intermission go quick with plenty of entertainment. This hockey center lives and breathes tradition. I went to my first hockey game here back in 1999 and still today, nothing has changed in the programming. The opening ceremony, the same announcer who plays with his tie, kiss cam, smile cam, tshirt canon, Dominos Pizza giveaway to the student section. The same scoring Sieve chant... And they still sing Sweet Caroline at the 2nd intermission. Tradition. This school lives it and I like that my kids are able to experience a clean, family-friendly type of entertainment. I always assumed that the design of this place was a nod to the old Soviet Union beaten in hockey by Herb as it was gray, drab and lifeless as the worst of Stalinist architecture. The new entrance tacked on the parking lot end is an improvement that at least makes going in less unpleasant. The seats however are a hold over, stolen from the KGB where they were used to force confessions from dissidents. They are narrower than a bench which would be tolerable if not for the back. Having a back on them gives you about 3 inches to actually sit on and no way to adjust for relief. If you can't sit in the private section for grown ups (which is fenced off) try to get the student section which is benches with no backs. Better to jostle with drunk 19 year olds than sit in those...
