Double Arch is one of my favorite hikes in RRG. I love sitting atop the Observatory, snacking and taking in the views. My usual route is Auxier Ridge #204 to Auxier Branch #203 to Double Arch #201, but with storms in the forecast, I wanted a shorter, easier hike.

Taking Double Arch #201 out of the parking lot is easier, though less impressive views. It is a gravel service road halfway there before turning down into the valley. There are some uprooted trees along the path, all of which have paths circumventing the deep holes left behind. The views at double arch are fantastic, especially from atop the...

The parking fills up fast as others have said. Best to arrive early. However, the trail didn't feel busy even with the parking full. Starts as a flat gravel path, then turns down into the valley as a narrow trail. The scenery on this section is beautiful. Lots of mountain Laurel, rhododendron, spring wildflowers, ferns, and mature trees. The rock arch is worth the hike. There's a set of stone steps or a side trail to get...
