I love this place. If you want some "air vitamins" aka negative ions in your life this is the place! Some people believe that inhaling negative ions near waterfalls can have positive effects on mood, stress levels, and breathing. Just a quick 38 minute drive from Salem this is a stunning location and not as busy as the other falls. Went for a mid week short hike to ground. The trees provided enough shelter from the storm that passed over and we headed down to the falls. I suggest taking a picture of the map prior to your descent as the paths split. Just watch out for a few areas where there was some metal sticking up in the path that could be a tripping hazard and watch for rocks overhead if you have a hat on and the occasional giant spider that may be hanging from the caves. See pics. 😜 🕷️ Amazing temp change when you get into the cave behind the waterfall. There are some benches to sit. Shouldn't have to be said but...please don't carve the cave or trees like others and leave no trace, pack out what you pack in so that this beautiful place can be there for a long long time. Sláinte ☘️🌈 🌲 More info: "North Falls is the third tallest along the Trail of Ten Falls and the only one in the park that can be viewed from highway 214. The falls drops in a straight plunge down approximately 136 feet (41 m) channeled through a narrow crack in the basaltic bedrock to a steeply slanted protrusion of basalt which causes splashing of the cascade into the pool. a 1/4 mile trail with a moderate elevation gain approximately 80 stairs that lead behind North Falls through a large cutout on the rock. It continues west and roughly follows North Creek through the Canyon Trail, passing several waterfalls, including Twin Falls, Middle North Falls, Drake Falls, and Lower North Falls. On the opposite direction from the North Falls trailhead is the short, flat trail to Upper North Falls. The North Falls trail passes behind North Falls in massive undercut cliff that extends back from the falls for at least 100 feet. The ceiling of the recess runs anywhere from 20 to approximately as much as 75 feet above the trail as it passes behind the waterfall. The large size of the undercut rock allows the roar of the falls to be considerably...
Read moreIncredible waterfall and the best one at Silver Falls State Park. I was there in August so there was not as much water as usual, however the falls were still incredible. You can see it as you walk up and continue to get closer it gets more impressive. You start up and walk down towards the falls and eventually end up behind them. Behind the falls here is unique compared to the other waterfalls due to the massive cave that you walk though. You can stand directly behind the falls and look out with the falls in front of you and it was the highlight of the park. Afterwards you have to climb back up to the top but if you are going to only see one waterfall at the park, make sure it...
Read moreGreat place to enjoy fantastic views of the waterfall and walk through the cave behind it. The path itself up to it is very nice with lush trees, animals and plants. Not too far from the parking lot and the hike is pretty plain (as opposed to south falls). It can be slippery and muddy though, so be prepared. Best time to come for sure is late spring. Take a tripod with you to have the best pictures of the...
