North Falls has special meaning to me since my parents were married behind this roaring beauty. The basalt cavern behind the waterfall reveals the areas history where lava had formed around logs long ago. The cavern goes way behind the falls with views of the waterfall and North Fork Silver Creek Canyon. Trees grow below the edge of the cavern. Ferns capture the spray of the thundering waterfall. In summer the valley is very bright green with maples and salmonberries whereas the winter reveals the mossy trunks of the Big leaf Maples and towering conifers- Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, and Western Hemlock. Pacific Yew is also in the area. Water flows year round here with lower levels later in summer and early fall. Read moreMight have been my favorite of all the falls at Silver Falls SP. A walk-around waterfall with a MASSIVE area behind the falls to sit and relax. There are even a few wooden benches, as well as some natural benches cut from the stone to sit on. We saw several people hanging out and eating their lunch while gazing at the falls. Because of this large undercut area, it amplifies the sound and power of the falls. Super impressive!
