Tucked along the Puget Sound, Saltar’s Point Beach is a hidden gem that offers a perfect blend of serenity, natural beauty, and coastal charm. My recent visit left me impressed by the peaceful atmosphere and the variety of sights to enjoy.
The beach is mostly rocky, but it’s well-maintained and offers sweeping views of the water and nearby islands. During my visit, the cloudy skies added a dramatic touch to the landscape, making it an ideal spot for photography or quiet reflection. A ferry slowly cruising across the Sound added to the coastal ambiance.
What makes Saltar’s Point truly special is its vibrant tidepool life. I spotted a stunning purple sea star clinging to a rock, and another orange-toned starfish further along the shore. The tide pools were teeming with barnacles, seaweed, and tiny shells—making it a great spot for nature lovers and families with kids.
There are some picnic-friendly areas, restrooms, and an accessible path, though the beach itself is best explored on foot and with proper shoes for the rocky terrain.
Highlights: • Beautiful views of the Sound and passing ferries • Interesting marine life (especially during low tide) • Quiet, less-crowded atmosphere • Great for a casual walk, photography, or relaxing by the water
Things to know: • The beach is mostly rocky, so bring sturdy shoes. • Weather can shift quickly—layer up. • Limited parking during busy hours.

Read moreThis is a beautiful beach. However, it is not a place to spend much time at because there is no public restroom. The last time I was there the restrooms were open and well-maintained. Now the building is sealed off. There is one lone porta-potty at the top of the stairs leading to the beach. I don't have young children but if I did I wouldn't bring them here. I'd head down the street to Sunnyside instead. It may be more crowded but at least it has running water and working toilets. I limited my stay at Saltar's Point because even as an adult I don't find it acceptable to use a porta potty - the ONLY porta potty for the whole beach - on a 90...
Read moreTook the pups for a playdate here, the bridge across and stairs down are pretty intense, all 3 of my medium size dogs struggled to make it across, down and back up again. There is metal grating used and you can see through to the ground which is far down, it also seemed to hurt their paws a bit. Once on the beach, it was nice and empty, but extremely rocky. The view was fantastic and there were lots of crabs and jellyfish to look at. If you want a secluded experience, and don't mind lots of rocks, then this a great beach for you. I would definitely be careful bringing...
