Amish Direct Furniture — Attraction in Sterling Heights

There are times people may question the type of furniture they want and are willing to pay for. I grew up being taught that if it is good, quality built furniture it can last a lifetime with care. When I started to buy my own furniture, I was interested in having the wood, style and stain of my choice because I wanted it to be timeless so it can look as good 50 years from now as it did when I bought it. That is what I have found in the furniture I purchased from Amish Direct Furniture.

My initial contact with the company was from the website while searching for pantries. I didn’t want the put together kind as I had that before. They are not lifetime pieces. I didn’t know there was an Amish furniture store in my area and I was glad to be able to go and see for myself the quality compared to the price. However, it was a while before I actually went to the store.

When I first walked into the showroom, I was greeted by Jared who inquired on the reason for my visit. I informed him of the search for two pantries that I saw online but could not find them any longer. I had the information on a cell phone picture. He located the catalog in the store and found exactly the same pantries.

While ordering, I was surprised at the options of stains and hardware along with the types of wood and option to customize what I was looking for. The original pantries had drawers but they were on the bottom. I wanted them moved to the middle as I had plans to use them for spices I have in mason jars. Jared understood and took to the math calculations to see how the height would be beneficial and compared it to my height. He also helped with the hardware and how the handles would ergonomically be more comfortable for my hands. Jared also took the time to answer questions and addressed any concerns I had after explaining the ordering process. I placed the order and went home.

Later that day, I realized the stain was much lighter than any other wood furniture stains I had at home and felt it would not be a match. I called Jared who said it was not too late to add the stain. I returned to the store and had the challenge of selecting between two stained I liked. As I had two pantries, I selected stains and hardware that complimented each.

Delivery was flawless and accommodating to my schedule. When the pantries arrived, I was astonished at how well built the furniture was, how beautiful the stain and hardware, connectors and shelving were. When they arrived in the house, I was amazed at how well it matched the kitchen cabinets and armoire that I had over 15 years ago. I put a wood oil on them, sewn felt on the metal shelf tabs, put felt on the bottom of the shelves to catch any spills, and put the 4oz and 8oz mason jar spices and herbs in the drawers. They both hold so much until I was able to take items from the basement shelves and cabinets and place them into the panties! I was then able to get rid of the put-it-together-yourself furniture I bought years ago.

Since that time I have purchased a 3 shelf small bookcase that fits exactly in the space I designated in the living room, a platform bed which also was retrieved from an old catalog, and, from the showroom, a pie safe that I use to store craft and sewing items, yarn, and craft books.

Everyone who sees the furniture is astonished at how beautiful they look, how well built they are and the fact that, even though they were not on the website any longer, I could still purchase and customize the pieces.

When we finally decided to get a new kitchen table we spent several years casually shopping at some of the typical local furniture stores. We either didn't see something we liked, or we were not happy with the quality of the available products.

A couple of months ago we walked into Amish Direct Furniture and realized it was probably going to be the last store we visited. We ended up speaking with Jared and he worked with us for over an hour. By the time we left, our minds were dizzy with the number of options, styles, colors and finishes available to us, but we had basically nailed down what we wanted except for the color of the stain. He sent us home with a couple of color samples and we soon figured out what we wanted.

When the table was delivered a couple of months later, it was everything we had hoped and expected it would be. We definitely own some high-quality furniture.

Our entire experience with Amish Direct Furniture was amazing; from the shopping and ordering to the delivery. Jared was an excellent sales person who obviously knows the products they sell. It is still amazing to me that he knew exactly which of the countless vendor catalog had examples of the styles we were interested in, and how quickly he was able to find those examples in the catalogs. When the table and chairs were delivered, we dealt with three amazing guys; Andre, Derek and Al. They were very friendly, professional, and polite. They carefully brought in the table and chairs, unpacked them, and assembled the table. They also made sure to tell us how to care for the items to ensure they last for many years to come. We have had some nice delivery people over the years, but I think Andre, Derek and Al get the gold medal. They were phenomenal!

We are so pleased, with both our bedroom set and the service. After too many experiences at the typical places in the area, where the furniture doesn’t last and the service is poor, we finally decided it was worth it to spring for Amish-built. We’ve never known such solid furniture. We will have it forever. Steve and Steven (father and son!) were both excellent helps and patient. We were surprised at the range of prices, with the lower range being more affordable than expected for good furniture. We did spend more than we planned, but it was worth it because of the live wood design we found (the edges are the natural edge of the tree for head/footboard tops and front edge of dressers/nightstands, beautiful not hokey, pictures don’t do it justice). They were very helpful with breaking down all the options and costs of each. Not pushy. Very understanding of the need to keep to a budget. We opted to save money by not getting the drawer self-closing mechanism but kind of wish we had now, since you always have to give a last little push for them to be closed otherwise. It’s fine though. And in our case, it was worth opting for the design we love. The drawers have an anti-tip mechanism on them as well (amazing). I’m pleased at the low level of off-gassing as well. I’m usually very sensitive to this. The delivery guys were just good guys and knew what they were doing and made sure the furniture was placed just where I wanted it. The set is too big for our room so that was especially appreciated. We plan to move in the next few years to somewhere it can flourish :) Every day I love our bedroom more. Every night we sleep well.
