This is a relatively small Alabama State Park that was neglected for too long. Alabama seems to finally be ready and committed to get it back up and running. Visitors should expect a somewhat primitive experience with some degree of noise and inconvenience while the necessary repairs and updates take place. The Fire Tower is currently under (June 2021) major repair with the tower stairs getting a major do-over. The tower will be off-limits until that safety repair project is completed. Still, it is a step back in time that is worth taking your time to visit. If you love undisturbed nature, there is plenty of that. The view from the ground at the Fire Tower is still worth your time and effort. Note: Pay attention to side trails / roads as you drive up the mountain. Once you leave the nice gravel road, the road beyond was pretty rough. I'd recommend walking it to ensure your vehicle...

There's an outhouse to use. Be sure to bring a bed roll, bedding, water, and food... Like camping, but in a cabin with lights. It is beautiful, well kept and maintained... The tower is still locked but still a beautiful place to see. The gates open at 9 am and close at sunset... The biggest gem a Flagg Mountain is Sunny Eberhart, aka Nimblewill Nomad himself.... If you go to Flagg Mountain, he will greet you at the 1st cabin and he will steal you heart as he did mine and so many others of the world... Flagg...
