Really beautiful. The CCC road leading to the trailhead is a dirt road which had a few muddy and rutted spots so it is best travelled with a high-clearance vehicle. There is a nice pavilion at the trailhead to rest and prepare for your hike-camping there is not permitted but there are designated campsites including a shelter near Weogufka creek and rustic cabins that were built by the CCC. They do not have running water. Alcohol is not allowed. There were port-o-lets near the cabins. A friendly full time caretaker is on site at the cabin area in the Ranger’s cabin. Campers can park their cars in an area near the cabins and the caretaker will keep an eye on them. The trails are steep and rocky at times-a hiking pole is recommended. At the time I went the tower was not accessible to the public but a pavilion beneath it provided welcome shelter from the wind on a chilly day. Local scouts from Alexander City were camping...

This will be a detailed review. We started the pinhoti trail and went 7.8 miles to county road 56 . This is the best marked trail I've ever hiked with two sign in books along the way and a nice new shelter. There are a few benches along the trail as well as some monuments marking the trail. The trail had several steep climbs and two wash out areas that were difficult. Toward the end of the trail loggers destroyed the route with heavy equipment which made it hard to finish. Overall the trail was awesome. You will arrive at the tower roughly 2 miles after you start. You will also pass by the cabins and the common area which are cool. We meet the trail keepers who's trail names are Chuck Norris and Tigger. Great people who offered us drinks and a lot of useful info. They are serious hikers with the Appalachian trail already under there belt. Bring plenty of water. The trail doesn't get near the creek much at...

Did a 20 mile backpacking trip over the last weekend of April. Weather was great. Don’t let the hills fool you! Trail was marked pretty good in most places. Parts of it were sketchy. Stealth camping is pretty much what your going to be doing. A couple of great spots to do so. One around mile 11 Oslo gets a beautiful Creek in a gorge right a couple miles past Capertons. Another beautiful spot around mile 16.2. It actually had a fire ring and...

Day 13 (April 22) 24.6 miles I woke up at 5:30 and got hiking in about an hour. It was so chilly and windy that I did everything I could to try to stay warm while I was getting ready for the day, LOL. Because I had dry camped the night before, meaning that there was no water at my planned campsite, I had cameled up, so to speak (drank a liter at the last stream,) And then brought 2 liters up with me.  What I hadn't bothered to look at was how far ahead the next water source was. So 14.3 mi after I last filled up on water, I finally got to the next stream. I wasn't dehydrated or evem 100% out of water, but I certainly didn't have my coffee that morning and I really wanted some caffeine!  I hung out for almost an hour with my coffee and my water LOL. After I got going again I saw some random remains of a crashed Jeep! I had seen lots of comments about this and at some point there was actually a Jeep there and nobody knows how it got there because this is literally a hiking trail. The majority of the guesses included alcohol.  I ended up getting to the place where I planned to camp at 4:00 p.m.. it was much more accessible to the public than I realized, and there were even two people there fishing. I decided to push on and found another beautiful spot at about mile 24.6. The campsites were flat and secluded. There is water to soak my feet and make my dinner! As soon as the sun went down I heard a ton of coyotes and then later a few owls having a very loud raucus conversation! #pinhoti #pinhotiforever #thruhike #hikingadventures #backpackingadventures

Pinhoti Day 14 (April 23) 23.3 miles This morning was another cold one which I was very happy about! I really could do without the heat and I sleep so incredibly well when it's chilly. I started out about 6:45 and still made it to my planned camp @ 19 miles by 4:00 p.m.. I did have kind of a frustrating afternoon. The app that I use to do these long hikes has everything marked on it. Water sources, campsites, views, you name it. And the water sources are categorized by seasonal or reliable. Theoretically the reliable water sources are actually reliable LOL. But with the recent dry spell, I could see a lot of comments on many of the reliable sources saying they were dry and as I went through, yep they were dry. The campsite that I planned was at the last reliable water source before a long stretch of more than 10 miles, So I didn't dare drink all my water and it was super hot later in the day. When I finally got to the campsite at 4:00, the stream was running very well and I really didn't need to have worried. I soaked my feet, drank a bunch, filtered more water and decided to keep going. When I'm by myself I'm not a sitting around camp kind of person. Can you tell? I ended up going 23.3 miles and finding a really nice stealth site (also dry camping, but I'm getting used to it!) It was a beautiful area and I was so excited to get to Dalton the next day and eat lots of food! 😂 #pinhoti #pinhotiforever #thruhike #hikingadventures #backpackingadventures
