Not worried about the bears... worried about the incompetent workers at the ticket both and the rangers. We pulled in excited to play some tennis and swim in the lake. After the young gals at the ticket booth spent 10 minutes helping the 1 car in front of us, we were finally able to pull up and pay. We drove around the whole parking lot 3 times and there was not a single available spot in the lot. However, there was a spot carved out right in front of the restrooms. We parked and had a good time playing and swimming. When we returned to our vehicle, there was a parking ticket on our window. 1st, the ticket booth attendants never told us the lot was full. 2nd, the ticket booth attendants never told us we were not allowed to park on the dirt areas. 3rd, the spot we parked at looked like it was carved out for vehicles to park. After all, if all the other spots were already taken and the attendants let us in, they must have known that was the only spot still available. 4th, there were no cones blocking the area where we parked. 5th, there was no tape blocking off the area where we parked. 6th, there were no visible signs saying, "No Parking" anywhere near where we parked. We had paid our entrance fee and then were charged an extra $71.50 for a parking ticket. We tried to dispute the ticket, but nobody would talk to us. We submitted a written dispute WITH PICTURES and were denied. My best guess would be that nobody actually read our letter nor looked at our pictures or else common sense would have prevailed. In my opinion, there is a drastic level of incompetence at the ticket booth. Couple that with an absolute breakdown of communication between them and the park ranger who wrote the ticket and they created a disasterous experience for our family. I would like to see an overhaul of their practices and continued training that includes accountability to the...

At first wanted to leave immediately because of Kiara, a ranger who guessed at what to do when our trailer/truck would not fit in the assigned spot we had. After going through the entire campground, with our trailer in tow, to find a spot we liked, we came back to find out that she was wrong and wasted our time. We were obviously upset and after verbalizing this, she was extremely rude including, "they like to have people there who are nice!" The volunteer (Kevin?) came around and apologized, so we didn't leave right away. This place is incredibly beautiful! The sites in the back loop are best & very flat. No hookup and yes, saw a giant black bear close to campground! There are 2 in the area! Also, the road from South Tahoe is incredibly windy and narrow & scary! Waterfalls were the best to see. We eventually did leave early and Kiara gave us the wrong information on how to leave early as well. She informed us we had to go online to change the date to leave early (no internet there!). We spent an hour finding a place to get online only to find out that is not the way it works. Then a young male ranger we arranged this with put the wrong check out date on the early out slip! ! Also, you won't get to shower unless YOU ask to buy tokens on your way in (they don't tell you). Sooooo, gave it a 3 star because it is so...

The pin location on Google Map is super confusing. Don't rely on the pin location. Treat it as just the parking lot place.

If you're here for hiking, or even the beautiful lake shore, you should go across the road to the side close to the lake. Go down the trail when you see its entrance. You'll enjoy the pines around you like walking in a forest as you approach the lake shore.

Pay attention to the sign and board that has map illustration, use them to navigate your way, not Google Map! Only use Google Map / your phone GPS as supplementary. I would recommend take a photo of the sign/board with the local map.

The best highlight would be the pier that goes into the lake. It's rare, most of the piers around Tahoe are private and fenced by a locked gate. Not this one, you can go straight into the end of the pier, and you can view the lake as if you were viewing from the middle...
