Very Rude Employees: My husband and I took our 21 month old and our four year old to Burts Farm today. The kids were incredibly excited when they saw all the pumpkins. My one year old daughter found a little one she wanted and picked it up but the stem broke off at the base as she lifted it up to show me and it landed on another little one. Then a Burts farm employee came over immediately and said very harshly and rudely that now that's already two pumpkins she has bruised. She then told me not to let my daughter touch anymore. I was taken aback because we were so excited to be there and in less than 5 minutes we were scolded and I was somehow supposed to keep a less than two year old from touching the reason we drove over an hour to be there. I let it go and took my daughter away from the little pumpkins and over to the huge pumpkins where my four year old son was trying to pick out a giant one we should buy for the front of our house. I figured it was safer over there because there is no way a 22lb baby could harm any of those and she should would be able to run around happily looking at them without bothering anyone. About 15 min later, my son had picked the giant pumpkin we would take home. We wanted to get a family photo around it before we put it in the wheel barrow so my husband and I squatted down behind it, my son stood next to it, and we sat on daughter on it for a quick picture. Within 20 seconds, another employee arrived and said "now I know someone else already talked to you about sitting on the pumpkins (Not true. This was the first time we put her on one) so I know you know the rules. I don't want to have to ask you to leave but I will do it." My husband calmly said "No, no one told us not to sit, but I promise it won't happen again." And she said "Do it again and I'll make you leave!" Again, this was not said in a kind way just nicely informing us of the rules or even asking if we planned to purchase that one (we did plan to buy it). It was instead immediately rude and a bit hostile for no reason...enough so that my son asked "Mommy, why are we in trouble? Why was she so mad?"
In short, the farm is adorable, the hayride fun, the pumpkins beautiful, and there is an excellent selection of sizes and colors. However, these two encounters sadly put a big damper on what was supposed to be a fun family day out. My kids were in no way out of control. They were just excited. I'm pretty shocked that a place that seems to make a good amount of money these few weeks from families with young children would be so harsh about the rules. I completely understand they don't want to end up with a whole patch of bruised pumpkins that no one wants to buy but there is no reason to be so rude when we were in no way intentionally harming the pumpkins and in fact planned to buy all of those that we handled.
Very sad and disappointed in something we've been really...
