Visited on a Wednesday morning in early April. There is a small exhibit space with aquarium and informational posters. A couple of the tanks were empty and the ones that had fish were a bit dirty and needed some cleaning. There were public bathrooms inside and a fun trout puzzle for kids to do. We walked out into the hatchery section which was cool to see all the little baby trout. Then the outside raceways had the much larger ones. We stayed for about 45 mins. We watched a few of the staff work on the fish raceways outside. They were treating one of them because there were a number of dead fish.
We did end up going into the office area and found a staff member who was able to get us our National Fish and Wildlife Blue Goose stamp for Dale Hollow in our passport book. She said they don't get many people in there collecting the stamps. She had to add ink to it and was really nice and helpful. We talked for a couple mins and then it was off to wolf creek national fish hatchery. There were also picnic tables outside under some trees which would've been nice to have lunch under if we weren't on a tight schedule.
Overall a great visit. Not sure if we would go out of our way to visit again but worth the first visit. Maybe if we were in the area or passing by...
Read moreThank you Dale Hollow Hatchery for all the federal rainbow trout in past and hope we get more in the future for Tennessee. We do not have a state trout hatchery here for northeast TN Tailwaters and trout conservation is not a thing either, oddly enough… so you are “key” for northeast Tennessee mountain Tailwaters. Wanted to leave a note of appreciation for the Celina federal rainbow trout hatchery and the trout that ride so far to the Watauga River and South Holston Rivers(6 hours to the northeast TN mountain Tailwaters). Did want to mention the tailwater trout fishery here is deteriorating due to less federal rainbow trout stockings and relaxed regulations of TWRA(use trout as bait, 7 fish per angler). Again thank you for what you do and have done for the state...
Read moreVery awesome placeand it's completely free. And I also found out today, they are open on weekends even though it says closed on google. I had a great time with my wife and son, just checking out the trout that they raise. Pretty amazing how the process works. Highly recommend going and taking a tour for yourself or just to take the kids. This is definitely on my list for the must see places...
