We were transported yesterday to Napa and Sonoma by visiting the Meadowbrook Winery in Oldwick, NJ and doing their Premium tasting. The tasting room has a sublime, minimalist look and feel with an elevated attention to detail in their choice of the furniture, glassware, dishes, the lighting at the bar and spectacular wall mural. The room is beautiful but it is letting the 20 foot floor to ceiling windows (overlooking the vineyard) and the wine do all the talking. Tranquil and sophisticated is the perfect description. We started the tasting with their sparkling wine to cleanse the palate and then moved on to whites. I loved the Albarino, Chardonnay and Chardonnay reserve. It was interesting to compare and contrast the three with the help of the gracious winemaker, Conor Quilty. He explained in detail how all were produced and aged. The tasting included a charcuterie platter and fresh baked focaccia all sourced from local farmers and bakers in the area-outstanding!! So nice to see local businesses support each other. After that we moved on to the reds with the grand finale being the Governor’s Cup award winner for best red wine in NJ, the Reserve Cab Franc. It is full bodied and lush and deserves all the accolades it has received. As we prepared to go, we took one final look at the vineyard as golden hour approached and thought we will be back and it will be soon. We hear fire pits are in the plans; sounds lovely.

This was a stellar experience! The food, the wine, the winemakers expertise, and the space/atmosphere was all chefs kiss but my absolute favorite was tasting the whole berry cabernet franc. With notes of green pepper and non-spicy jalapeño, it was unique and super delicious. It tasted so special that I had to take home a bottle! Leaving the city for the day and going to this winery with gorgeous views was exactly the reset I needed from a Sunday afternoon.

Wow. A NJ winery that feels and tastes like Napa and Sonoma. Kudos Conner!! Reserve cab franc was as good as it gets. Had flights of red and white and was amazed that NJ Chard and Cab Franc can be this good. Staff was so friendly and accommodating. The bonus of being in Tewksbury and seeing mountains around you makes you feel like Napa and Sonoma valley.

Meadowbrook Winery is a remarkable discovery — the closest winery to New York City and a refreshing alternative to the usual weekend routine. Just a quick train ride away, it offers an experience that feels worlds apart.

The setting is serene, with a refined tasting room overlooking the vineyard. Each wine thoughtfully paired with artisanal small bites, highlighting the care and precision behind every pour. Winemaker Conor Quilty, whose roots began at Hirsch Vineyards on the Sonoma Coast, brings a thoughtful, expressive approach to East Coast winemaking — producing wines that reflect both his craftsmanship and the character of the region.

The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, adding to an polished and relaxed atmosphere. Meadowbrook is well worth the trip — a place to slow down, savor, and support exceptional local craft. Bring home a few bottles or order online; this is East Coast winemaking...

The bucolic setting is serene and exceptionally scenic, the staff was friendly and attentive, the tasting building was thoughtfully laid out and with nice minimalist details, the locally sourced food accompaniments were delicious, so why the 3? Simply put, while I have realistic expectations of what NJ wine can be, 3 of the 7 wines served were simply undrinkable and we poured them out upon sampling. It’s ok to have individualized palates and preferences which I can appreciate, I have many times simply said “that’s not for me” or something similar but it’s something entirely else when the response on 3 wines, let alone 1, is “that’s...
