We had dinner here for the first time this past Sunday. We put our name down at exactly 8PM with the outdoor hostess. She said it was 1/2hr wait time. She did NOT in anyway indicate it might be longer. My husband is diabetic so at 8:20 he took his insulin based on what we were told. At 8:45 still no table and the hostess didn't even say anything to us although we were in front of her on a bench. At 8:45 I asked what's going on. She said it will be another 10-15 min. I told her that's 1hr wait, not 1/2hr as she said. Her reply was "I can't control when people leave". We were getting very concerned about the insulin and waiting longer so we went inside to eat there although we wanted outdoor dining. They have 2 rooms inside and we liked one better. We asked to sit there and we were told they are about to shut down that room. Reluctantly we said ok to the other room which is kind of dark and noisy because the bar is in there. Even in there we were given the worst table right by the entry way where everybody comes and goes. WE WERE FED UP & DISGUSTED. We would have left but there were no other restaurants nearby and the insulin was a major concern. Just at that moment the outdoor hostess said she could seat us outside. I spoke to Roger (manager). He had no sympathy for us and said "well we can't throw people out you know". About 15 min later, I think he realized this was not the right way to respond so he came over, apologized and offered my husband orange juice. Later he came by again with his business card and reassured us that NEXT TIME we would not have any problems. By the time our entrees came, the place had mostly cleared out. There were people at one table who had finished dinner and were just chatting and another couple was having desert. The staff was also cleaning up all around us. That was our ATMOSPHERE. I ordered Atlantic sole which was strangely 4 strips, dry, and piled one in top of the other. Fingerlink potatoes also dry mostly under the fish. My husband did like his filet mignon. We spent over $100 and needless to say we would NEVER RETURN. I do believe we should have been offered something under the lousy circumstances but seeing what another customer said that he had to fight to get 50%off, its clear it was not going to happen. It must be the way they do things at the famous Tewksbury Inn....
Read moreSadly it has consistently gone down hill over the past 6 months - consistency in food and overall service. Nothing to do with front line servers - 100% management. (Which is Only reason I am giving 2 stars vs 1 - the servers are truly great but honestly in many ways we have seen them struggle due to the poor management overall.) We consistently visited with our family of 5 for the last several months - every week - but consistently over the last few weeks our reservations were messed up - we were put at tables of 4 for a family of 5 in middle of the bar (even though we voiced to them repeatedly and have raved on social media about how conscientious the restaurant has consistently been about putting us in a spacious area for our family to have adequate and safe spacing and how important that was to us) - guess its now throw all caution "and safety" to the wind and its just about a bottom line. Also we have been consistently told over last few weeks we are on a 90 minute time limit if we wanted to still have our dinner reservations we would need to be "on our way" quickly. So easy to do with a family of five and wow what a relaxing way to spend our one outing we chose in this challenging time.
We were recently told basically that due to business picking up they really just can't accommodate the standing 6pm reservation we had every Friday - so just call each week and they will "see" if they can fit us in. And supposedly that was from their General Manager - wow! Thanks but no thanks.
Life has been hard and we realize especially hard for the service industry - and we have so tried to "GIVE BACK" to restaurants - an industry we know has been hit so significantly - especially the amazing smaller and local establishments. But if this is what we get in return - um, NO - so, not worth it - wish we had given our time and $$s elsewhere to a different more appreciative establishment - because there are many...
Read moreThe Tewksbury Inn in Oldwick, NJ, touts itself as a charming “former stagecoach stop” from the 1800s, but the only thing historic here is the infestation of roaches scuttling across the dining room. We came expecting quaint fine dining in the “heart of horse country” and left with a story that’ll make your skin crawl. The place is falling apart – creaky floors, dim lights that barely hide the grime, and a “garden terrace” that’s a mosquito haven with no shade. We sat on the pathetic patio (weather permitting? More like wind-tossed chaos), dodging bugs of the flying and crawling variety. Yes, roaches. We spotted at least three darting across our table, one bold enough to eyeball my overpriced wine. Pets aren’t allowed, but apparently, six-legged freeloaders get a free pass. Service was abysmal. Our waiter, who looked like he’d been there since the inn opened, moved slower than the roaches and forgot half our order. Drinks took forever, and the food? A disgrace. The “exquisite” raw bar featured slimy oysters that tasted like Raritan River runoff and shrimp so overcooked they could’ve doubled as hockey pucks. The main courses were bland New American mush, with “wide-ranging influences” straight from a frozen food aisle. For the price, I expected a meal, not a health code violation. This place is a tourist trap banking on fake nostalgia. The roach problem alone should shut it down, but add the terrible food, lazy service, and absurd prices, and you’ve got a recipe for regret. If you’re in Hunterdon County, steer clear – unless you’re studying entomology. 1 star, only because I can’t give it negative.
Edit: I actually never worked here And I used grok thank...
