My family visited the winery to celebrate my parent's wedding anniversary. They are wine lovers so my siblings and I wanted to take them on a wine tour discovering what the hill country has to offer. We came across this winery after searching numerous lists and reviews, and can I say we were more than delighted by our experience.
From the start we were amazed at the breathtaking location. The cliff side view evoked a sense of peace and tranquility that we thoroughly enjoyed while sampling the delicious wines. Chip had such an infectious personality introducing us to the different blends while also interweaving many funny anecdotal stories related to each bottle. It was a very different experience from other tastings, where our guide gave a more dry delivery of the wine selection not invoking as much feeling toward specific blends. Not only was Chip a great ambassador for your vineyard, but the pièce de résistance was Doug's tour of the barrel room.
Doug's breadth of knowledge and true passion for wines made us appreciate more not only the wine but the vineyard as well. It is always so exciting for us when we encounter other individuals who have such heartfelt passion for what they do. We were a captivated audience from start to finish, and truly felt like we were talking to an old friend about our love for wine. The years of hard work and family incorporated into growing the winery shows and was so refreshing to witness. We drove back home and couldn't seem to stop talking about the winery and how great of a time we all had. My parent's loved the trip and now have a wonderful memory for their anniversary. We've already been discussing future trips to come and enjoy dinner in the barrel room, so we will...
Read moreFor a very cheap fee you too can feel like you’re a retired millionaire living it up in hill country. The setting at Hawks Shadow Winery is gorgeous and the fact that you can take it all in while sipping wine on their patio makes it even better. Parking is great, many options available and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, truly passionate about what they do. We got the classic wine tasting for $15/per person which comes with a tasting of four wines although we were given an extra wine to taste in a testament to how friendly the staff is. There’s something about sitting up in the hills with wine that just feels incredibly relaxing as a whole. THe view is breathtaking, you can see for miles up there across rolling green hills. It was windy when we were up there so you may want to wear clothes that are tighter fitting to you.
The interior of the winery is modern and nicely put together. They sell different tiers of wine tasting alongside a charcuterie board and chocolates should you want a snack while there. One of the highlights is that they offer a cellar tour of their wines for free on request. We saw a large group taking advantage of that when we peeked down there. They were also incredibly accommodating of our dog while we were on the patio and brought him a bowl to drink from while out there. Free water bottles are also available to grab, which is very nice of them to put out for patrons. These are people who care tremendously about what they do and the land they do it on. They deserve all the praise we’ve given them and strongly encourage anyone looking for something to do in hill country to stop by, you...
Read moreDrove about an hour outside of Lake Travis because this winery looked like the best option and appeared at the top of my search. The views and the wine were great, the service however was questionable. ordered a 6 glass flight tasting and was brought a single glass of wine with a sip in it at a time and then the server walked away and did not have the other options to follow. we had to wait around for the next pour. Then after that we sat for 10 minutes until another younger waitress noticed we were dry. She then brought two options at a time for us to try (as I had to request we try at least 2 at a time) before we ordered a full glass each. A wine flight is usually served all together and not individually every 10 minutes. Was expecting a little bit more out of my first visit to...
