I’m so thrilled to be writing this review. This past weekend was my first is Austin and was excited to try ALL the things. Well, trying all the things wasn’t completely in the cards. Apparently you need a reservation to go to Hamilton Pool now. Mind boggling lol Anyway, my sister (a total wino) saw a sign for Westcave Cellars and Winery and insisted we go. Let me clarify something... I am not a wine person. I want to be, but it’s just not in me. Let me tell you that THIS place has the best wine I have ever had. I know Texas and wine are words that you ever thought would go together, but let me tell you.... they do and always should! Their wine is simply delicious and airy. Their wine allows the fruit profiles come to the front of these wines vs a lot of oak or that butter flavor. Like a beautifully light dry wine that gives you all the feelings of summer.
Margaret was our host for our tasting and was such a sweet and amazing lady! She was very informative, but relaxed and welcoming. She assured me that I knew more about wine then I realized (thank you chemistry). I 100% recommend going to Westcave to try out some kickass Texas wine. My favs were the Malbec de Franc and the Estate Viognier. Chenin Blanc was also...
Read more2024 is our year to explore the wineries of Texas hill country. Westcave is our first one. It was couple of weeks back. Margaret was an absolute delight who helped us with everything at the Westcave. We were so trilled to see that they are a brewery too and you can flights of beer as well. That gave us so much of choices. They have good food options and Margaret is a great resource with the pairings recommendations. She also talked about each one of wine from the tasting series. Westcave have multiple tasting series starting from mixes of white and red to bold red ones.. so select the one that you want to experience. I loved the small setting and personable touch to the whole experience. So refreshingly different from the commercialized large ones. Margaret actually asked my husband to keep his cellphone aside, and think about the time when he first met me... what an absolute delight. I am...
Read moreThis was a highlight of our Austin Anniversary trip! We did the tour which included the tasting! Margaret was an amazing host for the tasting, which was held in a nice spacious tasting room! They even had a nice picnic/ porch swings area outside. The charcuterie board was great! We ended up buying several different Red Wines after the tasting, which was before the tour.
After walking through the tour we realized why the reds were so good. Alan is VERY meticulous in his craft and it shows. There was so much we learned through the tour (from harvesting, to destemming, straining, different barrels, fermentation process, etc.) that my nerd senses were through the roof! All in all, it was an excellent experience.
We can't wait for their next bottling to see if they top what they did with their...
