Visited Blue Lotus Winery/Texas Mead Works recently and had a mixed experience. The mead is absolutely phenomenal—hands down a 10/10. Rich, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the trip. If you’re a mead lover, this place is a must-visit just for that alone.
The food, however, was a big letdown. It tasted premade and lacked any real quality or freshness—honestly, it felt like an afterthought compared to the mead. I’d recommend skipping it entirely and just enjoying the drinks.
The atmosphere was great at first—relaxed, cozy, and perfect for sipping mead. But then a bus tour rolled in, and it got way too busy and chaotic. What started as a chill vibe turned into a crowded mess pretty quick.
The staff, though, was friendly and made the experience most enjoyable. Overall, come for the mead and the nice service, but don’t expect much from the food or a peaceful visit if the...
Read moreWhen hubby and I were making plans for our 20 year anniversary, we decided to hit some tastings on this strip of highway. I said "we MUST stop at the mead place and then anything after that I am fine with." Now I sit, writing a review about two tastings, three purchased bottles, and a membership in if that tells you how delicious this mead is! We bought the Jalepeno Melomel, Lucky Monk, and the Shotgun Wedding which is a currant and sweet chocolatey type of mead. That one is taking off! They had flavors like Peach, apple pie (Yes really!) , caramel apple, some toasted marshmallow bread type, um... blackberry, and a "pinehopple" on tap. I am sooo looking forward to our date nights at the Blue Lotus! Thank you to Dan, the pour and taste master with the cool shotgun wine opener, for treating us to such an...
Read moreFantastic place! Delicious mead. Dan was an amazing host, super friendly and helpful, a great conversationalist who told us about each flavor / variety we tasted, and who shared some of his own stories. He’s a former attorney who spent part of his childhood in Italy, which makes things even more interesting. The vibe of the place is cozy, clean, modern, and very nice, with good views into hill country.
The meads themselves are all wonderful - some are a bit sweet, but I personally loved the peanut butter mead and the Lucky Monk - I even bought a bottle of Lucky Monk, which was very reasonably priced! Highly...
