We were traveling from Cooksburg to Meadville and looking for attractions to break up the drive. The lighthouse fit the bill, and we had a great visit. The lighthouse sits on a reclaimed gravel pit on the Allegheny River. It sits as a memorial to the Sherman family. There are three others on Lake Erie. The area around the lighthouse is called the Peace Garden, and it includes a small copy of the Statue of Liberty and memorials to veterans as well as a chapel. There are walking and biking trails. The lighthouse is open once day a month for tours that include 280 miniature lighthouses. The area north of the lighthouse has a number of buildings intended to be museums, but we're repurposed to serve juveniles in trouble with the law. This is a beautiful venue with wonderful vistas.
