We were traveling from Cooksburg to Meadville and looking for attractions to break up the drive. The lighthouse fit the bill, and we had a great visit. The lighthouse sits on a reclaimed gravel pit on the Allegheny River. It sits as a memorial to the Sherman family. There are three others on Lake Erie. The area around the lighthouse is called the Peace Garden, and it includes a small copy of the Statue of Liberty and memorials to veterans as well as a chapel. There are walking and biking trails. The lighthouse is open once day a month for tours that include 280 miniature lighthouses. The area north of the lighthouse has a number of buildings intended to be museums, but we're repurposed to serve juveniles in trouble with the law. This is a beautiful venue with wonderful vistas. A great place to spend an hour or more. There is plenty of parking, and our GPS found the place, but it will take you thru Tionesta's back streets. The town looked interesting, but we didn't have...

You will enjoy this place But call ahead to arrange the tour guide he is not there all the time and the lighthouse is locked without the guide...
