This is an excellent area maintained by hardworking volunteers for everyone to enjoy. There's a signboard with information about the area and handouts before entering the woods and five parking lots at various entrances. Trails are clearly marked and color coded with arrows. We visited on a weekend and took a walk with a dog and enjoyed seeing the expanse of the second growth forest. The remnants of the sawmill among many notable trees plus spotting wildlife make it an interesting and engaging area to explore. The lot we parked in was free, and the woods and preserve are open from sunrise to sunset. Dogs are only allowed on marked trails, leashed or within sight, and vocal range while carrying a leash. Read moreThe grade of the trails is varied and the amount of overhead canopy tree cover is amazing. As an avid forrager and mushroom hunter I will tell you this is the mecca. Also if you have a metal detector bring it as there are plenty of old finds as the area was a staging ground for King Phillips Wars bloodiest battles. Not sure if you can keep the stuff you find but I would bring them to the historical society and or town historian. Read moreThis is a nice place for a casual hike through woods and fields. There are about seven miles of well-marked trails with five entry points. High Rock, old cellar holes, and the remains of a sawmill, with stone and earth dam, millrace and arched bridge are points of interest.
Open from sunrise to sunset. Dogs must be leashed. No camping, hunting, fires, motorized vehicles.
On our weekend visits we typically see half-a-dozen other visitors. On weekdays you may have the place to yourself.
