Time to set the record straight. The reason this Market is even a shadow of what it used to be is because of the original Proprietor Sheryl and especially the superb Management team of Helen and Susan. They cared immensely about the craft and about many products being locally sourced. New owners took over and eventually drove the Management team out, because they had absolutely no love for the craft at all - they only cared about what products “moved”. When you are a customer there, the owner will go out of his way to make no eye contact or interaction with you whatsoever. Why is he even there?!? He looks miserable... He scoffs and scowls at his loyal patrons. The kids behind the counter are sweet, but if it wasn’t for what Helen, and especially Susan, taught them before they left, they would still be clueless and the Market would have failed. I suppose they have made efforts to continue to learn, but there is no way they are of the previous team’s expert Cheesemonger level and care for these artisanal foods. All of the touches that made this place very special - the carefully handwritten signs eloquently describing the cheeses, the tasteful selections, etc. - are all still in place from the previous team. They deserve some praise for what they did, because the new owners never gave them any. Now the new owners are expanding, just for the sake of expanding, it seems. They seemingly have no plan to really contribute to the neighborhood, except to make maximum profit. It needed to be said. I used to love going here. It was an event, with the ever-changing tasteful design decorations, etc., and their support of the neighborhood. Not any...
Read moreMy wife and I had an excellent experience at the Cheese Wheel recently. When we first walked in we were met by an enthusiastic cheesemonger team of Emma and Emily (if my memory serves me correctly). While the various cheese selection from around the world was definitely welcomed it was also overwhelming in what to choose as they all seemed delicious. The sweet, courteous and professional girls delved into the informative explanations of the cheeses, their origins and taste profiles. The best was yet to come as we sampled an array of delicious cheese. The cheesemongers were spot on in their recommended selections and I believe we bought about 7 different cheeses out of the 8 we tried. I highly recommend this place for the cheese lover, seeker and connoisseur. This place is the real deal, had a very special selection of cheeses which rivaled any big city cheese shops. When we departed they had presented us with a index card they keep on file so you know what cheeses you had tried along with the cheesemongers tasting notes. Great job! We will be frequent customers when we are...
Read moreVery friendly and knowledgeable staff. As someone who is a self professed cheese lover (all my friends will confirm) The Cheese Wheel Village Market has some of the best cheese I have ever tasted. My Fiance who doesn't really love cheese also loved their cheese espically the rattlesnake cheddar. The staff went out of their way and put our cheese in with cold packs to make sure it remained cold during our long drive back home. I can't wait to return the next time we are...
