My wife and I went to this museum a couple days ago and we both loved it! They have dozens of aircraft on display, many of which you can actually walk into and look around. One of which is on display on the tarmac just outside, an old radar-outfitted Lockheed Constellation which was one of my favorite things about the museum. One thing I would recommend, try and go during temperate time as the hangers that the aircraft are on display in are not heated. However, this definitely didn't keep me from enjoying the museum. One of the greatest things about it was a flight simulator they have that you can use. With multiple screens, a full yoke, throttle quadrant, and rudder pedals, you can teach yourself how to take-off, fly, and land many of the different aircraft they have with the simulator. Using the Microsoft Flight Simulator X software in the simulator, I had a lot of fun and brought back a lot of memories of when I took pilot lessons a few years ago. This is definitely a family-friendly museum, especially for those interested in aviation like I am. After touring the museum, complete with two fully-stocked hangers of aircraft, not to mention the Conny outside, you can visit the gift shop before leaving. I honestly have no complaints from this museum. Friendly staff, a wide variety of aircraft to see all dating way back to the World War I to present day, and the excellent flight simulator system, this is a hidden treasure in the capital of Kansas and a must-see for anyone interested...

This place is so cool! My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and I decided to surprise him with this. I didn't know how cool it would be until I was actually in there with him. He was part of the Air Force and was so surprised to see so many different eras of planes and ammunition there.

There was so much knowledge from the people that were working on the projects and we found out it was all volunteers. One woman in particular, Debbie, was actually one of the members from the Chinook that I posted. She has an amazing story about her survival, and now restoration of the very chopper that she used to help fly.

You can tell there is so much passion there and they even have events for kids and others to participate and enjoy learning about aviation and different aspects of the Air Force. I highly recommend you check it out as we ended up spending over 3 hours there. Originally it was just supposed to be like 45 minutes. Absolutely...

Before coming here, the only air museum I had visited was SAC near Omaha, which is a large museum. This museum obviously doesn't have the same kind of funding that SAC does, but there was a certain charm to this museum that I thoroughly enjoyed. They have a unique set of aircraft that SAC doesn't seem to have, like an F-15 and an F-14. They also have a large plane that you can actually enter and walk through, which SAC no longer allows. SAC is clean and sterile, whereas certain parts of this museum feel more like a mechanic's shop, likely because they are in the middle of restoring these aircraft. Again, a charm I enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and enthusiastic about aviation, especially the gentleman operating the flight simulator. If you're in the area and have a strong enthusiasm for aviation and history, I highly recommend...

The Combat Air museum in Topeka Kansas it is a great way to spend an hour checking out the history of flight and the armed forces of multiple nations, going all the way back to world war one. It’s a very cheap day out and tickets cost only six dollars per person over 18, which is very reasonable for a museum these days. There are around 40 different planes and helicopters to see and you’re allowed to walk inside a couple of them to check them out. Set inside two aircraft hangers, if you’re a fan of aviation at all I highly recommend you visit this museum. As a note, but come at a museum is also near the Kansas national guard museum which has an open a display with a whole bunch of helicopters and ground support vehicles. Make sure you take the time to check those out too.

My wife and I stayed in Topeka on our way to Colorado and decided to visit the Combat Air Museum while there. We were greeted by a gentleman named Ralph and offered a guided tour which we happily excepted. He was extremely kind and knowledgeable. It was very rewarding to learn he was personally responsible for bringing some of the aircraft for display. It was a tremendous experience being able to not only see a vast and diverse amount of aircraft but the huge collection of art work as well as supporting equipment. There are so many great displays and so worth the time and inexpensive entrance fee to visit. I encourage everyone to invest the time to visit and bring young people, so they can learn so much about our history.
