Followed the southbound "fishing trail" hoping to do some ultralight stream fishing. After 1/4 mile of hiking, I encountered 3 downed trees blocking the trail. The trail was barely visible and the brush was chest high (some with thorns). The stream was crystal clear, but far too shallow to hold fish larger than minnows. Couldn't even access the stream in most areas due to clay/mud banks and thick brush.
I cannot speak for the "long loop" trail. It looked like it sees more traffic, and might be ok. I didn't come for a hike though so I didn't explore it. I would imagine that the only maintenance done is people walking on it, given the sorry state of the other trail.
Would not recommend this for anyone who is unfamiliar with hiking/recognizing trails and markers. I hike through woods to find fishing holes all the time, and I started losing track of where I was.
It is a nice area though. Saw some deer tracks/beds and the forest was generally full of life. If I do come back, it will be springtime when the water is higher due to snowmelt and the brush...
Read moreThis preserve might have been nice when it was created in 2015, but it is an overgrown mess today. There is no good reason to hike this trail, unless you want mosquitoes and ticks to hitch a ride back with you. There are plenty of better maintain trails in the area that have just as many wildlife viewing opportunities.
There is no parking lot, just a pull off space for cars that is often taken up by the corporation across the street. There are no bathroom facilities, no picnic tables, and no water fountains. I won't...
Read moreI wouldn’t normally say this, but this preserve would be better off as a housing development or farmland. The trails are easy and well maintained, but there are few living trees and most of the park is a cesspool of invasive species and mosquitoes. When I saw the map at the trailhead, I wondered why there weren’t more trails, but now I realize there is nothing interesting to see besides dead trees with vines. Possibly done fishing spots, but hard to access. Would not...
