Family friendly in every way. We took our 5yr. old (just over the 42"height restriction), and our 5mo. old. This meant a lot of sitting with the 5mo. old and a lot of doing with our 5 yr. old! Suffice to say, we need to have the best of both worlds, comfy seating with fabulous people watching, and enough to leave a 5yr. old sound asleep by 7pm after a days worth of non stop go go go !
Top line, Splashdown Beach is small enough to feel that one days worth of visit is money well spent, but big enough with a vast breadth of age range appeal to really deliver value for money.
Not that its expensive, more on that shortly. This is one of the best water parks and family days out I've been to in ages. Clean, lots and lots of front line staff and lifeguards, well run, massive amounts of space with lots of options on seating covering loungers, beach areas, umbrellas and shaded areas, and great food options.
Cost, not a lot considering the spread of entertainment. Same applies for food, a good selection of inexpensive options, from traditional BBQd dogs and burgers to salads etc. all coming in under $10 per head.
For kids under the 42" ride height threshold for some of the wilder wet rides there are still plentiful options. There were a lot of smaller slides, themed areas and fun stuff to do. Basically general messing around in water areas with spray cannons, mini slides, geysers etc, all with the room for parents to get involved or watch from a safe distance. Life guards were plentiful every where we went, not only giving a bit of piece of mind that you have some back up, they also did a great job of preventing older / bigger kids over the height threshold spoiling the smaller ones fun / play. Yes, there is a lot of whistle peeping but I'd rather have that than upset little ones.
For kids over 42", (including big kids aka adults having way too much fun), the park has an enormous pull for the entire day. Lots of water slide rides with varying level of white knuckle thrills, mainly exciting but not overwhelming for me and my mini me 5 yr old. Every ride was well staffed and controlled, resulting in minimum queuing. I also felt that there were no gangs of kids roaming around. There were lots of camp groups but the traditional mid teen, attitude fueled, gob shite spitters were refreshingly conspicuous in their absence.
The single thing that really caught my families attention was how well maintained and cared for the park is. Normally these water parks verge on being tatty at best, and dangerous at worst, but Splashdown Beach looks like it was opened yesterday. Everything felt and looked new or in pristine condition.
We saw zero litter bar one piece of gum which was in the process of being cleaned up, and two dropped ice cream cones, that had a staff member standing over them waiting for a clean up crew to arrive. Seriously, it felt like park inspection day such was the level of attention to keeping areas clean and safe. It was really nice to see this.
The park was busy, but given the layout there was always seating, with all the rides spread out over a well landscaped and beautifully maintained space. It sometimes looked like half of the 5 NY boroughs were visiting, yet never felt over crowded.
In summary, we loved our day out and would highly recommend Splashdown as a great family wide day out which doesn't hurt your pocket and leaves you and your little gang...
Read moreThe park itself, perfect size for a nice relaxed day in the water. You can do the slides multiple times, the wave pool looks small but it has great waves. Someone pooped in it when we were there, they had to have everyone get out so they could clean it. Took about an hour. We actually had a great time at the park itself.
Now on to the food options. First off all everything is extremely expensive. $17 for a burger without fries in a small park is insane. Not to mention they do not customize the burgers. You can't have them remove the lettuce, or the mayo, or anything like that. Insane because they are making them fresh at the counter, they aren't pre made. 36 dollars for a cheese pie. That's wild.
Many of the food and snack shops weren't open as well. I went to get a fresh lemonade at 245pm and they were all out of sugar. How do you run out of sugar in the middle of the afternoon on a Wednesday in August??? How don't you have cups at the burger hut?
They advertise fried dough at the ice cream hut. The photo is of your classic funnel cake with ice cream and chocolate sauce. I went to the hut to get fried dough. They offer a sundae. It comes with flat cinnamon sugar fried dough, choc/van swirl soft serve, chocolate and salted Caramel sauces, chocolate sprinkles and whipped cream. Before ordering I first inquired about just getting toppings on the fried dough. The girl working there says "you can add whatever toppings you want". I said great, but you know what let me get the sundae, no sprinkles. She says "Ok just let them know when they are making it. " I pay and step aside to wait for my sundae. About 10 min wait and they call out my order. I get to the front and the same girl shoves a small tray towards me. It doesn't look anything like what I ordered so I say, "What's this? This isn't what I ordered." She then turns to me and says "We don't have any of those toppings." Are you kidding??? Then why would you let me purchase it? And then just give me anything? She gave me fried dough, which was about 1/2 the size of a small slice of cake, with vanilla soft serve, SLIVERED ALMONDS, whipped cream, and rainbow sprinkles. Not even remotely close to what I ordered. And what if I had a nut allergy???? How do you just throw nuts in people's food because you feel like it? There was absolutely nothing in the menu that advertised nuts so why do they even have those? I ended up getting my money back. And the girl had the nerve to have an attitude. I should have gotten her name. She could cost someone their life if they have a severe allergy.
All in all, the park itself is fine but pack lunch and drinks for your group. They allow re entry and have a picnic area by the parking lot. We had a fun day but we all...
Read moreWe were looking for a waterpark to spend the day, glad we came across Splashdown Beach! We arrived around 10:50am and it was already SO PACKED with camps and regular visitors. I like the way they manage traffic for parking. There are designated employees who tell you where to go and made it seamless. We got out of the car and made h the line to enter. There were 3 employees who check bags. They don’t allow outside food but offer to hold it and you can claim it when you leave. It wasn’t too bad of a wait and the line moved pretty fast. Past the bag check, you go in to scan your tickets. Make sure you buy them ahead of time online to save money and time. We checked the gift shop and bought 2 phone water pouch, they also have other items for sale in case you forget something like water shoes, goggles, etc. We settled down around the lazy river, there were plenty of seating throughout the park you just have to look. For lunch, we checked out pizza boardwalk and got 2 slices of pizza, chicken fingers, bucket of fries, and the souvenir cup which you’re able to refill for $1 each time. The price point for the food were a little bit on the steep side, we spent around $56, but the food was good and service was fast. I wished the food was a little bit warmer though, especially the pizza. After lunch we got soft serve ice cream from the frosty shack! Before leaving we played at the arcade which had some decent games. Overall, we had a really great time and would recommend this water park. Besides the crowd, everything was great and clean. Our favorite were the coconut pool, the lazy river, and the cowabunga slides! We can’t wait to come back and hope the staff and owner continue to uphold this experience for us and...
