Called the Grand Canyon of the East. I go often including every year my brother has taken me for my birthday since 1989! I highly recommend the Glen Iris Inn for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The food is always delicious and not badly priced. The balloons are well advertised but the truth is that the winds are so tricky they rarely lift off. I've only seen them go up once! I've been there many many times but only once they've lifted off. It was remarkably beautiful. Sorry couldn't find the photos ๐ Heading towards the Trout Pond is a very old cemetery next to a little white church. And definitely don't miss Mary Jamison story or the trial grounds where the huts are displayed. The book of her life is always available at the Glen Iris gift shop. If you want a lovely quiet walk look for the Birch Trail. Even the most crowded days leave that trail peaceful. If you can hike, the trail to the lower falls is tough but so worth the effort. Don't miss the Humphrey Nature Trail. Made for autistic kids but it's fun for anyone (dogs are not allowed here) they have musical instruments that you play. Their beautiful sound resonates through the forest. Just beautiful and fun! Best entrance is Castile because it's closest to the overlooks and falls. The park is something like 17 miles long. That gets very long at 25mph. The scenery really begins after Castile. The dam is at the opposite end Mount Morris). Its nice if you're into dams, just so you know it's a long ride then to the falls. Always beautiful as forest on either side and usually plenty of wildlife. There are scenic views along the way. Don't miss: inspiration point, wolf creek, the Trout Pond or the view from the Glen Iris overlook. Also, if you can, walk up the trail/steps between middle and upper falls. Overall, ANY trail walked there will be memorable and every minute heavenly. Any time spent at Letchworth is worth it. It's gorgeous and serene even when crowded. Nature...

I only found out about it by chance when visiting a winery and somebody told me I shouldn't miss it - So I didn't ๐ค Truly the best state park I've ever been to and quite possibly the best one of all. I was lucky to get a campsite. And only because it was during the week. Once again I'm sure there will be vacancies each weekend but since the website shows they were all spoken for (and not canceled) other people will not be able to experience this grandeur.๐จ
I tried to do the balloon flight ๐ and I would love to do the river rafting๐๐ฃ but the weather was just not...
ย ย ย Read moreOk let me admit it right off the I really like parks and this park is great. Great scenic Park drive, great Visitor Center, some nice trails and on let's not forget the waterfalls. Not one, not two but three great waterfalls and the park has built trails too see them all.
Sorry but we didn't camp so I can't tell you about the campground but we stayed in the Lodge and found out clean, a bit worn down, and the WiFi didn't reach out room. The AC was noisy as was there dehumidifier in the bathroom. But the staff was great to get us in the room when we would had found climbing the stairs to our third floor room in the hotel really difficult. So yeah it was still a win.
