⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Lifesaving Experience for My Son’s Broken Arm – Exceptional Pediatric ER & Ortho Team! After a terrible experience at another hospital (Cohen LIJ), where the ER team failed us and no one followed up, we were referred to Nassau University Medical Center by our orthopedic specialist. From the moment we arrived, the care was "night-and-day different". Pediatric ER: The wait time was shockingly short, and the team was incredibly kind. My son, Tristan, was seen immediately, and 4-5 different nurses checked on him regularly, making sure he was comfortable. A compassionate Haitian doctor (I wish I got his name!) was thorough and reassuring. Emergency Surgery: We were admitted for an urgent wrist surgery due to a broken bone. The resident orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Omar Saleem (Precision Orthopedics - 161 Willis Ave Mineola), was outstanding. He took the time to explain the procedure in detail, answered all our questions with patience, and treated Tristan with so much empathy. The surgery went smoothly, and I felt confident in his expertise. Post-Op & Discharge: After a 3-hour wait (expected for emergency cases), RN Jin Young Lee handled our discharge with exceptional care. She reviewed all instructions clearly, ensured we understood follow-up care, and was genuinely kind. Hospital Environment: Yes, the building is older, but it’s well-kept, clean, and organized. Even the restrooms were neat—something I don’t take for granted in busy hospitals! I’m truly saddened by the negative reviews because our experience was flawless in a high-stress situation. If you need emergency care (especially pediatric) or a skilled orthopedic specialist, I highly recommend NUMC—and ask for Dr. Omar Saleem if you need bone-related care. Thank you, NUMC team, for restoring our faith in medical care!

I am writing this review because I visited this hospital on October 8, 2021 and I must say, in all my 30+ years, this was the worse experience I’ve ever had with any resident or other medical profession drawing blood. I went in bc I had chest pain. They decided to do blood work. Dr. Kevin Zheng (Asian resident) drew my blood while my arm rested on the bed. Nothing was physically wrong with me. I didn’t have an IV or anything. He did not take the time to pull up a table or find a more comfortable means to elevate the arm from which he drew blood. This is a different level of unprofessionalism, I was slummed over on the bed while he basically mutilated my arm. In my experience, it was never this hard for anyone finding a vein. He jabbed and jabbed, until my arm became sore and started bleeding. Bleeding to the point it started dripping on the sheets. I never thought I’d experience such inhumane treatment at the hands of a hospital staff. I had to ask a nurse to change the bed spread or else I was gonna be left to lay on said sheet. He was like a machine, he had no remorse or empathy. The hospital at the time was not ransacked with Covid patients. It was a fairly quiet but moderate night. In other words, he could have taken his time to treat his patient with some level of decency. I wonder, what are the requirements for getting a medical degree these days? It seems pretty low if a resident can treat a patient with such unprofessionalism. I wrote this to make others aware.

Please don't go here -If I had the option to give no stars I would.. I cannot even comprehend what I was just told minutes ago by one of the doctors on the detox floor.. she wasn't even my doctor either, I had a male. I completed the detox program only 3 days ago and was put on Suboxone maintenance which by the way I was very apprehensive about but was almost pushed into it and then was given an appointment at an outpatient clinic for July 1st not even a 100% intake but just an initial appointment so the doctor caseworker and counselors all reassured me that they would make sure I had three weeks worth of Suboxone to make sure if this didn't work I would be okay and they called it into the wrong Pharmacy First and then I go to pick it up at my correct Pharmacy 3 days after I get out of detox at this point which is today and they give me Narcan which I didn't even realize until getting home and seeing that my pharmacy was closed so I'm constantly trying to reach out to a doctor finally get a hold of one and she tells me that they don't prescribe Suboxone to outside clinics. At this point I'm staying professional but I'm very upset because luckily I'm fortunate enough to know where to get what I needed and it was safe but for the others that aren't as fortunate what are they to do? Well you guys fumble the ball and and sit in your offices giggling you don't even realize that you're playing with somebody's life. Please don't go here for anybody who's thinking about it.

This is the WORST hospital EVER. My brother had a bullet in his femur for almost 24 hours. The nurses on the 7th Floor are disgusting, rude and unprofessional. My family member has been “mistakenly discharged” twice in less than a week after having surgery on his shattered femur. He can not walk or stand. The first time that he was discharged , the Nurse discharging him was disgusting to him and trying to force him into a wheel chair just HOURS AFTER SURGERY KNOWING HE CAN NOT BEND HIS KNEE OR STAND. Not only was the nurse discharging him nasty to him but the NURSE MANAGER, MS.MCCUE had previously came in to his room and was nasty to him as well. She says that the nurse who discharged my brother is in good standing and denies everything my brother reported to our family. It wasn’t until today as he was being discharged that he pointed Ms. MCCUE out in front of me and said she was really nasty to him. HR was made aware of this situation of him being discharged when he was not ready to be discharged and the nurse manager on the 7th floor MS. MCCUE who supposedly was going to page the trauma team (team in charge of writing the discharge) to speak to my family member so that they would have the consent to speak to me. NO ONE has yet to even apologize to my family member. The 2nd time that he was discharged , he was told he was getting discharged “soon”. He asked for an appeal (which he’s allowed to stay in the hospital until there has been a decision made for his appeal by a DOCTOR) YET ONCE AGAIN, the floor he was on discharged him RIGHT AWAY. This time they had 4 security GUARDS handling him NOT NURSES during the discharge process. As far as I know SECURITY GUARDS do not do the job of a nurse or doctor, the same way a nurse or doctor does not do the job of a security guard. This hospital disgusts me. He was brought back to the emergency room where he was DENIED. He was then sent to WINTHROP where the nurses were in disbelief of what was going on at NUMC. They called and NUMC asked that he’d be transferred immediately. THEY KNOW THAT WHAT they’ve done is just unacceptable. I wish for no HUMAN BEING to ever go through something like this and for no other family to experience this as well. It breaks my heart. Someone needs to be held accountable. IF THE OWN NURSE MANAGER ON THE 7th floor is being nasty to a patient I am sure that there is no repercussions for the other nurse discharging him. Today I went to speak to administration/ Ms. Bernabreu and it seems like they just all cover each other in this hospital. When I spoke to Ms.Mccue again today she was very unbothered by the situation and states she was unaware of what happened the 2nd time he was discharged. I also called the ER where I asked Sherry if it was legal to deny a patient in the ER & confirmed that it was in fact illegal and was shocked by this...

So I have mixed feeling about giving 1 star but there is no way I could give this place more than 1 star after what I experienced there this past week. I understand the need for this hospital. It is the only Level one trauma center in the county and serves large portion of uninsured individuals so i as negative as this review will be, I see the need for this hospital to improve because it’s a needed resource for so many on LI.

So the only reason I agreed to go to this hospital was because I needed another surgery due to complications I had from an orthopedic surgery 3 weeks ago at St. Joseph’s . My surgeon just happened to be operating at NUMC the day I needed the other surgery. I knew this hospital was bad but did not think healthcare in the richest country in the world, in one of the richest areas of the country would be this bad and this negligent. I could go on for hours writing about the lack of communication between nurses and the residents, never being able to get to speak with any doctor about your care, even with questions about discharge instructions that the nursing staff couldn’t answer. No doctors to be found after being told “we paged the team, etc”. I ended up leaving with out having my questions about wound care answered. So many other systemic issues going on with this hospital and after reading many of the reviews, I know I am not alone in my experience. My calls bell rings went unanswered for over a half hour when I was having trouble breathing. I heard them turning off the call bell but no one came despite my many repeated calls and eventually me calling out into the hallway for help. They messed up my medication regimen. When I arrived at the hospital, I must have given a list of my meds to at least 6 or 7 people and they were still given to me wrong or just not given to me at all. Dietary must not have had me on their list or something because I almost never had food delivered for me. So much is wrong with this hospital but I can’t blame the individual nurses and doctors because I know it’s more a systemic issue going on. The hospital is underfunded and understaffed. The nurse told my family she was the only one one the unit that day! Unsafe patient/staff ratios make for dangerous care. I really hope this place can turn it around because like I said, some people have no where else to go, either because they are uninsured or experience a trauma and need a Level 1 Trauma center so they don’t have a choice in where they end up. I feel bad for everyone who has had a negative experience there! If you can avoid this hospital, stay away! If you can’t avoid it, advocate for yourself/your family...

The worst hospital I've ever been to in my life, nurses checked up on you every 4-6 hours. Doctor and nurses said they are going to do something and never showed up to do it, left me hanging until I was forced to walk up to the front desk and still didn't get anyone to come or a direct answer. Got into a motorcycle accident and I had several cuts from road rash and in extreme pain. Gave me Tylenol and refused to up the dosage. Doctor didn't even tell me his name, didn't recommend any anti biotics for me now all my cuts are infected. Didn't even give me any at the hospital, no creams, nothing, didn't wash the blood dripping from my face left me there the same way I came in. Made me stay overnight and all they did was give me a green egg that exploded when I touched it and Tylenol, there was no reason to go to the hospital at all everything they did I could have easily done at home. Worst service I've EVER received at a hospital. Recommend no one EVER goes there for anything, extremely pissed at the way they treated me, not to mention their attitudes. Took 3 nurses to get the bed to work(for it to move up and down) and they couldn't even get it, I did it myself after them leaving the room for 45minutes saying they "were going to find help", wrapped 1 out of 10 extreme cuts, not to mention it was the one that hurt the least. Put 2 of the same bracelets (had patient name)on me that were hitting into my gashes and the nurse had a huge attitude when I asked him to cut one off and didn't have an answer to why I had 2 on. Had useless material on me, such as the finger reader with a wire that would wrap around me when I tried to get the little comfort out of the situation, it was attached to absolutely nothing, and when I asked him to take that off as well he got all huffy and puffy and took it off and threw it against the wall and said "is that it?" With an extreme attitude, I am very very unhappy with there services. I've never written a review in my life no matter how bad a place has pissed me off, but this was just absolutely ridiculous. Save yourself people before they leave you helpless and it's too late to fix you. Not to mention I was in the trauma section, claimed to be the #1. Number one my ass. More like the last...
