I remember when this place was brand new in the 1970s It was called Briggs. It was a beautiful place with new blue rugs, and nice people who knew how to take care of their customers. The ventilation was just great because every thing was all new at the time. Many years later when these new people took over, I couldn't believe that this was the same place, it was so despicable looking. I remember how bad the place was, so dirty and it smelled like cats piss. The ventilation was so bad, that I got heartburn in the few times that I went there. The people were so rude and obnoxious. The rugs were filthy and had tears in the carpet. That when you were shooting, you had to watch your footing. All they did was use duct tape to fix the rugs. It's amazing how long these people have stayed in business. They should have been closed down a long time ago. I don't think they knew how serious it was with poor ventilation. Your breathing in lead, which can cause respiratory problems for some people. Even the lighting was so bad, that at times I thought my eyes were going bad. I would never recommend this dump to anybody,...
Read moreVery dissapointing. I used to go there back in the late 70's, early 80's with my dad. I remember it to be a friendly, shooters club atmosphere. I even bought a few guns from them back in the early 90's and all seemed ok. I went back there recently and was blown away by the total lack of respect for customers. I inquired about range time and if it was ok for my 13yr old son to come and shoot. He told me to forget about bringing my son and that I had to use their ammo at $50/box. Shakedown time. The range looked like a swamp with a thick cloud of toxic lead smoke hanging overhead. And this was when they first opened up in the moring with just a few shooters. Imagine what it looks like when its busy. They were also aprehensive about turning on the lights in the showroom section. Arent they in the business to sell guns? I finally had it and walked out. If anyone is interested in opening up a customer friendly range here on the south shore that they can bring their family to, let me know. Doesnt look like theres much competition. I would have given this place one star but I gave it two for...
Read moreI was a little hesitant to visit this range after seeing the poor reviews, but there didn't seem to be any better options for me in the area (nearby Islip Range does not have rentals). You'll get everything you need to put a bunch of holes in paper. As others noted, it is cash only and there is an ATM. There are signs stating this now. The environment isn't great: it's an indoor range with about 16 stalls, but it ain't the worst. It's also pretty pricy. I shelled out $65 total, which included one hour range time and a 22 cal with 24 rounds. There are more expensive rental options (including AK 47, 12 gauge and 9mm), ranging up to $110. I'll probably head back next time I feel like splurging.
Edit: If you feel like driving a little more, Medford Shooting Range offers a better value. About 14 miles east, it offers a better selection of rifles for rent and much cheaper rates. I spent about $40 to rent a S&W M&P 15-22 and 100 rounds, which includes 1 hour range time. Definitely check it...
