Place was small, but great for my son. He is 2. Myself and my husband had a great time as well watching our son interact with the animals. It is CASH only, they do have an ATM on premise. It does cost more to do the train ride and feed the alligators and Imu. They provide the feed for that exhibit. The safari ride is included in your regular base ticket.
Some reviews are upset about the price of a child. I understand where you are coming from, but the main focus is for the younger crowd. Plus, they have so many animals they have to feed and do the upkeep for; it shows in their grounds and how well kept the place is. The memories my husband and I have are worth the money.
They have a parakeet exhibit, the birds are all over the place it was awesome, they fly onto you and sit on your arm/head/shoulders. The also hitched a ride on my shoes. They sell little seed sticks there for 2 bucks. But the bird literally sits right in your hand eating it. Again an experience worth the 2 bucks. The BABY goats are so gentle with feeding the grain. They fit through the fence and go off to the side fenced in area, this is great for little kids. As the bigger goats are more aggressive when it comes to the food. They don't bite you, they just want what you have.
The area where you can go in to see the deer was great as well. They are gentle and mostly will lay there and let you pet them. Except for stomper she is skiddish, will take food from you (again gentle) but does not like to be pet. The monkeys were awesome as well. They love the carrots! It's easier to get the carrots to them if you break them apart into little chunks and toss them to them.
On that note, you can't bring in outside food for the animals. They have 10 ounce cups filled with carrot sticks and 10 ounce cups with grain for 2 bucks each. They do reuse the cups so be environmentally conscious and give them back to be reused.
The park has a lot of hills, wear sneakers! And they are very steep in certain areas.
I hope this review was helpful, it was a great day trip and supports...
Read moreGreat family place, the kids really liked it, especially the bird house.
Pros: Pedestrian friendly, you can push a stroller or pull a wagon. Most of the park is in the shade. There are picnic tables centrally located under and around a covered area/pavilion, bathrooms, and several playgrounds throughout. You can bring a cooler and pack your own lunch. The safari ride is great fun for kids of all ages - most of the animals come right up to the wagon so you can see them up close.
Cons: Entire park, including admission is cash only. There is only one hand washing station (the bathroom) near the entrance of the park. there is one small paved parking lot adjacent to an unpaved overflow grass field (you may need to park far away and walk on busy days).
My recommendations, especially with young kids: -plan your visit on a weekday when the park is not so busy -pack a picnic and bring lots of drinking water -wear comfortable shoes for walking (sneakers with socks) -tie back long hair -wear comfortable clothes you can easily run and climb in - and don't mind getting dirty -wear a hat (the birds land on your head in the bird house) -bring a stroller or wagon for the little ones if they get tired -bring lots of quarters and dollar bills to buy food to feed the animals (there are the gumball-type machines filled with animal food all over that take quarters, dollar bills for the feeding sticks for the birds, and dollar bills for the cups of food for the deer at the end of the park) -bring small zip bags or containers with lids to hold animal food -put sunscreen on in the parking lot before you get into the park -and finally, if you want to be very prepared: bring a large bottle of water, hand towel and soap to wash everyone's hands before eating lunch or having snacks. Feeding and petting animals is messy...
Read moreI took my kids to visit Adirondak Animal Land on Sunday. We entered with 3 adults and three children. When we entered, although we paid in two different groups, they asked if we had ridden together. we said yes as we had come in my mini van. Due to this, they gave us ONE safari pass. Prior to going into the safari, we went and walked around the inside. There were monkeys, peacocks, kangaroos, turkeys, deer, a bird walk through, mini horses, camels, a single giraffe, multiple got enclosures, emu's, and a few other species. The walk through was small but great for ages 12 and under. It took us a little over an hour to complete. My kids enjoyed it. Once competing the walk through, we headed to drive through the safari. This was my children's favorite part. We wanted to complete it a second time and headed to the ticket office, willing to purchase a ticket to do so. When approaching the person at the desk I was told that despite us having three adults who should have all be able to get drive through tickets if we wanted to do only the drive through again we would need to pay for everyone to enter the park all over again. This was incredibly frustrating and is truly what knocked our experience down. They should have had an option to simply buy a drive-through only ticket or give our groups that paid separately each a drive-through ticket since we paid as multiple groups.
-animal food $4 a cup (clear disposable plastic. We spent $60 on animal food alone, so come prepared) -CASH ONLY -decent amount of baby animals -gift shop reasonably priced -animal enclosures small Park relatively clean -no outside...
