I took my kids to visit Adirondak Animal Land on Sunday. We entered with 3 adults and three children. When we entered, although we paid in two different groups, they asked if we had ridden together. we said yes as we had come in my mini van. Due to this, they gave us ONE safari pass. Prior to going into the safari, we went and walked around the inside. There were monkeys, peacocks, kangaroos, turkeys, deer, a bird walk through, mini horses, camels, a single giraffe, multiple got enclosures, emu's, and a few other species. The walk through was small but great for ages 12 and under. It took us a little over an hour to complete. My kids enjoyed it. Once competing the walk through, we headed to drive through the safari. This was my children's favorite part. We wanted to complete it a second time and headed to the ticket office, willing to purchase a ticket to do so. When approaching the person at the desk I was told that despite us having three adults who should have all be able to get drive through tickets if we wanted to do only the drive through again we would need to pay for everyone to enter the park all over again. This was incredibly frustrating and is truly what knocked our experience down. They should have had an option to simply buy a drive-through only ticket or give our groups that paid separately each a drive-through ticket since we paid as multiple groups. -animal food $4 a cup (clear disposable plastic. We spent $60 on animal food alone, so come prepared) -CASH ONLY -decent amount of baby animals -gift shop reasonably priced -animal enclosures small - Park relatively clean -no outside food for animals

There are two sections of AAL: one you can walk through, the second you can drive through. We found all of AAL to be clean. As we walked, then drove, nearly every animal approached us looking for food pellets, which are available in small mechanical dispensers for 25 cents . Petting is allowed, but don’t feed the zebras! The camels will extend their head and neck deep inside your car, if you drive with your windows down. To stay safe and slobberless, we drove with our windows up! Oh, and the herd of dear is way too large for their pen, let alone for your cup of pellets. Obviously, we began feeling sad and collectively guilty. There seems to be plenty of food, especially for the more assertive animals. But many hangout at the margins, watching cars creep by. Some animals were alone in their caged area, such as the one alligator, and likewise a few smaller reptiles. Others, such as five peacocks, were holed up in a cabana style enclosure once used for rabbits. Likewise, countless parakeets swirled in their cage from one walk-through human to the other who were each holding a Dixie cup of seeds. In another pen, some critters were circling or pacing in place, exhibiting clear signs of emotional distress. Our hearts sank a little more. We noticed that every bare, brushless pen was fenced off from the others, and of course from the lush, untouched forest surrounding the park. Except for the trees inside the pens, nothing else green grows beneath the canopy. You and your children may enjoy AAL for a few hours of contact with passive and penned animals, but everyone might walk out feeling a little depressed.

Unexceptable enclosures for monkeys, Moscow birds, giraffes, kangaroos and various other common or exotic animals. Not nearly enough space for them to roam and as a zoologist, I can tell they are stressed. The two monkeys in a tiny enclosure with barely any space to climb or roam are attacking each other due to this, the one bit and ripped off the other ones tail. Disgusting conditions, needing to be inspected and investigated in order to change these conditions and improve them. Along with this the speakers that were supposed to play music were broken and constantly having static and screeching noises, that the animals have to endure all the time. None of the animals have enough space when there’s more than enough land unused and large areas of entertainment that are taking up space instead, make the enclosures acceptable for holding life. They live in these conditions 24/7 and it’s inhumane, as a zoologist and someone who is invested in animals well-being I am upset and will try to find ways to make sure this place gets improved. The drive through part was acceptable but regardless the conditions of the animals through the walk-through are unacceptable and disgusting, something needs to be done as soon as possible and I will be reporting to USDA.

4.5 stars. Exceeded my expectations. Pros: heavily-shaded zoo-like atmosphere, was great to stay cool on this hot day and be outside. Very clean pens. I think the shade and cleanliness help the next pro, no wild animal smells. Good variety of animals highlighted by giraffes zebras camels monkeys bears ostriches buffalo wolves..etc the safari ride thru the open fields with the animals was short and sweet and great interactions. Going in the cage with the birds was cool and the petting zoo was good as well. Lots of people having a good time. Cons: (only because i had to come up with something) They don't open until 10am. Great place for kids but kids get up early, need their lunch and a nap. 9am opening would be very popular IMO. I had to pay a fair amount for my 1 year old. 2&under should be free IMO. Wolf pen was really small especially considering size of other exhibits. Food options were just ok but i wasnt there to eat anyways. I guess it would be weird to have an awesome burger shack there. Lol

CASH ONLY! $20 per adult for admission and $4 for grain cups. This place was awesome! We got there at just before 10 when they opened and did the walk through first as the drive through part didn’t open until 11. We fed giraffes some grain which was amazing! Do that first! The camel stole my cup of grain right out of my hand but it was so cute. Get extra grain just in case. The drive through was great! The deer were so cute and they loved the grain. Unfortunately they also knocked it out of my hand🤣Get extra grain. There were lots of emus and they were obnoxious and pushy about getting into your car so beware! The drive through part took about 45 minutes. It is self guided. The walk through part is hilly and uneven and would be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. This was a last minute trip for us. We were in Schenectady for The Lion King show at Proctor Theater and it was an easy 45min drive up there.

Neat place. They had some baby bears with no mama. Looked too young to be alone. Some animals were pacing, sign of boredom. The hooves on others were in need of trimming. Extremely unhappy with their 'wolf' enclosure. It is small and they are not purebred. They claim full wolf, they are hybrids. By claiming wolves and not explaining that they are wolfdogs they enforce the publics view of huskies being 98% wolf. I am so unhappy with the fact they were not educating people on this fact. This is a picture of the 'wolf' that is actually a hybrid. Proof- snow nose, inadequate fur on the ears, harsh stop on the face, no scent gland on the tail, paws were small, dog stance and did not single track.
