We had come up due North from the foothills of the Adirondacks. Our event as judges brought us into the LP area. ILBBQF along with Kansas City BBQ 2023. We were in the area for three days and after checking out of our hotel, Wildwood on the Lake, we decided during breakfast at the Downtown Diner in LP that Whiteface Mountain was next. The price for the two of us was $20 each. We thought that it was a bit steep but what isn’t these days? We passed the gates and up we went with the meandering of the road and the breathtaking views, we reached the summit. Remember, you are on a mountain with conditions that can just happen. Years back I was on the mountain on June 2nd and it snowed an inch on the top and then melted and went back to the sun. The staff were very friendly and guided us to park our vehicle. We checked out the castle and store and then walked to the stairs behind the castle that one could take to the top versus the elevator. Well, about 25 steps into going up and then seeing how far it was and how my legs felt, we bailed and headed to the elevator. If you are not in decent shape don’t even attempt those stairs as you could get into real trouble. The entrance to the elevator is a long dimly lit shaft with a copper overhead with water channels along the side for condensation to drain. It was 50 degrees in the shaft to the elevator. The entrance and shaft to the elevator were not scary but not anything you could just imagine on your own. What a feat of engineering this is. The wait was about ten minutes and was smooth up 27 stories. Walking out and onto the top of the mountain was stellar, to say the least. Very safe but not a place to run wild and disrespect the terrain. Mistakes up there could be curtains. I will add my pictures which are an excellent depiction of the summit visit. We enjoyed it and with the photography documentation, I learned even more when I returned home. If you have the time you could read everything and take it in but we were headed back to downtown LP for shopping. We spent about 2 hours on the mountain. The trip down is no joke. Read the braking instructions on the pamphlet they gave you when you paid at the entrance. Low gear as much as you can with taps on the brakes to keep your speed down. If you smell anything pull over at one of the safe pull-offs and let things cool. Check out the pictures and give us a thumbs up if you found the review to be helpful and informative. Lastly, tell them “some...

Overlooking Lake Placid is one of the tallest peaks in New York State, and one of its most prominent ski destinations – Whiteface Mountain. One of the main hubs of activity, no matter the season. It is located in the NY town of Wilmington, about 13 miles outside of Lake Placid.
Standing proudly at 4,867 feet, this natural wonder is the 5th tallest mountain in the whole New York state. With a bevy of trails, this mountain is a prime spot for riding, skiing, and hiking. Even better, the views from this mountain are to die for.
There are multiple ways to view and reach the top of Whiteface Mountain, including the Veteran’s Memorial Highway, Gondola rides, and hiking.
The mountain has 90 trails, with more than 22 miles of skiing and riding. The longest run is the Wilmington Trail, which is just over two miles.
Fact: It was home to the six alpine ski events in the 1980 Winter Olympics.
The summit of Whiteface offers 360-degree views that span as far as Canada and Vermont on clear days.
if you are taking Veteran’s Memorial Highway - It's $20 /PP fee. This scenic drive winds its way up the mountain giving way to some spectacular photo ops along the way - including a castle. From the castle, it's a 20-minute hike to the peak of Whiteface Mountain,
We took the highway, it's a very easy drive plus we wanted to visit the Summit Weather Observatory, and there is a lift to reach to summit, where you have seen the lift to reach the summit? I have never seen a lift installed in the mountain like this. Lift is for 5 persons only at a time, and takes almost 30-40 secs to reach the top. it is equal to a 24-floor building.
Also, the gondola is more fun in winter, in summer it will take you to just an overlook spot, I would suggest coming via highway. In fact, from the summit, you can see this gondola point, it’s higher than the gondola point. (just make sure while coming down, use low gears- typical suggestion- but it's important)
Parking: ample parking spot, one staff will stop you, provides useful info and tell you how/where to park.
One food truck was there serving typical fries, sandwiches, and burgers. Restroom & Git shop - is...
