Update: Since posting this review, I was contacted by Felix, the Retail Store Manager. He apologized that the situation went as far as it did and rectified the entire situation at no cost to me within two weeks. He was great, courteous and accommodating. Sometimes we experience some bad apples, but Felix made sure that I knew Hicks didn’t operate in this way and they want every one of their customers walking away extremely satisfied. Thank you, Felix! The newly planted bushes are perfect. The landscapers were professional and did a great job. I will certainly recommend others to your establishment and ask for you!
Beware inexperienced buyer/gardener. They give the impression that they know what they are doing but they don’t! They are just salespeople. I specifically told them I wanted a few bushes around 4 feet for my small backyard, didn’t want anything higher then my fence which is 6 feet high and the salesperson pointed to some really nice “bushes” which after the ones I picked were planted by their landscapers, I found out when a tag was left behind that they were actually trees that would grow up to 10 to 14 feet high. I have a very small backyard and just had concrete put down so this completely opposite of my expectations when going to a specialist or what I thought were specialists. So now I have 10 trees about 2 feet apart in a 30 by 30 backyard. When I brought this to their attention, Chris told me that I would have to pay an additional $270 to have someone come in and pull up the trees and plant the new bushes which I picked out after my second visit to Hicks. What happened to their guarantee?? By the way the new bushes I picked out and fit our needs better were $10 cheaper then the trees. I was told that I should have done my “homework.” Ok. Maybe I should have and that’s on me. I thought they were specialist and specifically told the guy walking me around that I wasn’t knowledgeable in this area and was relying on him. Well lesson learned. Don’t go to Hick’s and expect a knowledgeable person to assist you. Be sure to check the facts...
Read moreWhere do I start?! My grandfather told me over 25 years ago that Hicks nursery was shameful for the amount of money that they charge, I should have heeded his advice!
My family and I went to see the Halloween decorations and to purchase some pumpkins, boy was I wrong. As we entered the nursery, there was a line to get into the Halloween display, fine, no problem.
The Halloween display was touted as "animatronic", while they were not completely wrong (if you count a decrepit spider and a doll like figure), the rest of the display was not. It was full of stuffed animals and an odd storyline about a ghost named Otto. I get that this portion is aimed towards a young set of children, but it just seems like a very gimmicky way to get people into the nursery.
As you walk straight into insanely overpriced Christmas decorations (I mean $23 for a 3-4in santa cat figure) you begin to wonder if you have missed Halloween completely. A worker, who was very nice, directed us to the opposite side of the store so we can go look at more Halloween stuff.
As we walk over, we expect to see more displays, nope, we are met with more "Otto ghost" decorations and the "sweet" shop. The prices in the the sweet shop were also equally insane ($5 dollars for a lunch snack size bag of "gourmet" popcorn"). These prices are absolutely insane and I really do understand that it is family run and you cannot always compete with corporate America, but this place is just too much.
After wondering around the store looking for pumpkins we finally find them. You think they are from local farms, no, think again. They are imported from Canada and are very overpriced.
They did have a wide selection of plants and other horticultural goodies, so that may be why people feel the need to go there. There are many other nurseries on LI that are fairly priced in which you can get similar items.
We left, spent nothing, never to return again. if you are reading this and are worried about outrageous prices, I offer you the same advice my grandfather told...
Read moreHello there! ITS WORLD STOCK® here and I’ve got another brutally honest & thorough review for you to see.
Okay, let’s get into it . . .
My review pertains to the highest quality lavender plants I’ve ever seen here in New York being sold by Hicks nurseries here in Nassau County Long Island on August 8, 2024.
Just to put you in perspective no nursery in New York is on lavender anymore so good luck and second thing is if you do find lavender being sold, it’s not the quality that you’re getting from Hicks nurseries.
These lavender plants were very impressive to me because of the strength of the plant and rigid stem structure at such a young age.
Now, I am comparing this with mainly the Home Depot Bonnie plants that they sell and I will definitely say with absolute certainty that the best Home Depot lavender plant doesn’t even come close to this lavender plant that is so that Hicks nurseries.
The great thing was that it was 50% off so $9.99. I paid for the super high-quality lavender plants. The importance of having high-quality lavender plants is significantly important when taking into consideration the importance of a strong initial adolescent root system to the future growth.
These strong lavender plants will be able to with their excellent health and condition spread rapidly and fill-in spaces much quicker and in a much thicker filling in of spaces then other plants seen on the market comparatively.
These plants are the best lavender plants I’ve seen yet.
Take advantage of the discount.
I would hop by Hicks nurseries here off of Jericho Turnpike soon because they’re gonna run out.
