We were looking forward to this experience especially given their reviews. Unfortunately, it was not enjoyable .
This was our first time so we researched how to approach our escape and succeed. One of the first rules we learned of and adhered to was to keep it simple. These rooms are supposed to be able to be escaped from by the average person within an hour. Our group consisted of college educated, some with post graduate degrees, participants …… so hopefully we are considered at least “average”.
We think what derailed this entire experience (literally from the start) was the host’s very rapid and a bit mumbled explanation of the rules and instructions. We had to keep asking him what he said because none of us (6 people) understood him. He did not read from a script and relied upon his memory as one time asking himself aloud, “let me think, did I forget anything?”. So, not off to the greatest start. Then we were ushered into the room. We expected to work as a group but he instructed us (unexpectedly) to divide into groups of two and said that each pair had to resolve their issue for all of us to be eventually reunited and work together as a group moving forward. His instruction was not only vague but actually very misleading as we ended up wasting literally half of our time. It was needlessly frustrating. Had we been given one more instruction, it would have most likely made all of the difference. Maybe that is why a script should be used rather than relying upon memory(?).
By this time, we were all a bit irritated. We certainly were not having fun. What further contributed to this poor experience was the fact that the room was soooo dark. It was so dark that it was very difficult to see, read or discern colors. My eyes were literally strained as a result. We felt that this experience/room was not like those described in the numerous videos and articles written about them. There did not seem to be any logic or reasoning required to escape. Needless to say, we did not escape. The door was opened and we left without saying much. I think that the host knew that we were not happy and clearly did not enjoy our time. We will...
Read moreMy son and his friends had the best birthday experience! Mythical escape rooms was perfect for my son's 15th birthday.
There are two rooms. We booked the cryosleep room which is a scifi themed room. The other room is supposed to be a tab more scary, but from what I saw would probably be OK for teens and prrteens used to zombie type games/movies.
They were monitored the entire time and were given hints when needed to ensure everyone had a fun and successful escape. The interior of the rooms are gorgeous, with full sets to create the complete illusion of immersion. There were multiple puzzles of varying difficulty which will draw on a variety of skillsets. There was at least one puzzle that required physical manipulation of some objects which funnily enough gave my son and his friends some trouble. Not that they were difficult exactly but they relied more on spatial relationships rather than word or number puzzles.
From my perspective, it was a perfect birthday venue. Mythical is located in an office park off of 96 between Bushnell's Basin and Eastview mall. On this weekend, there was barely any traffic on the road and tons of parking. Driving to the pontillos in Bushnell's Basin was about a 5min drive. There's a lobby area outside of the escape rooms with a bathroom and a water fountain. Inside the escape rooms was even more room.
There's a large space with two long banquet tables, a fridge for storing cake and beverages. He also provided an insulated bag one might use to deliver food for storing our pizzas. I couldn't have been more pleased. We brought our own paper goods and had cupcakes instead of a large cake to minimize the need for service items. The owner, Scott, couldn't have been more kind and gracious. There were no other groups sharing the room. He allowed us use of entirety of the space to our group.
Overall, this was an EXCELLENT birthday venue for a group of 8 teens. A very fun escape room. Highly recommended if your considering an escape room for a...
Read moreWe were looking extremely forward to our escape room visit! The escape room itself was pretty cool, but the staff was less than helpful. We wanted to do a second escape room after our first one and were told no, because it closes at 9 and the employee needed to drive two hours away to give someone a ride and he needed to leave right on time. We realized after we left, the place did not close until 10, but whatever maybe the website hadn’t been updated. Then one of my friends accidentally left his keys in the escape room we did, he called the next day to see if the keys were there and the employee said no. Knowing for a fact, that is where he left them, he drove(in his wife’s car) 25 minutes from where he lived to check, and the keys were exactly where he said. So the employee never even looked and lied to us for a second time. We were very disappointed as we were so excited to try this room, but the customer service makes us not...
