Who doesn't love Little Stony Point? The view upriver from gorgeous Sandy Beach is immense and grandiose with rugged Breakneck Ridge coming in from the east, massive Storm King on the right. With such a view I sometimes I forget to swim on the hot days when I come here to refresh. Bring and wear sandals or sneakers on the beach as hardened water chestnuts, an invasive species, litter the beach. Their pointy spikes can puncture bare feet. Locals, like me, call them devilheads. Beyond the beach, Little Stony Point is woodsy, recovering from a bygone day where its hill was once quarried. Today, the abandoned quarry wall is an attraction itself, as is a hard-to-find mine shaft that pays rewards if you find it. Bring a flashlight and be prepared to crawl or stoop if you do enter it. The bird song was great until it was being drowned out by DES PA SI TOEEE. These people who blast this music had no respect for the natural beauty around us or the animals that live there. It’s a mere backdrop for them. They don’t come to appreciate nature. There’s a time and place to blast loud club music. This place isn’t it. Don’t even bother asking them to turn it down. If you enjoy listening to blasting DESPASITOEEEE this is THE place for you. If not, bring ear plugs. And then turn around and head to a...
