This was something that happened years ago at this point, but I just remembered it today randomly.
I was a member at this gym for awhile, was friendly with the owner when I would see him there and vice versa. When you sign up you get this "one time free guest pass". Ok cool, it was raining one evening and had nothing else to do, so I brought my girlfriend at the time and next thing you know here comes the owner (and his wife) screaming, making me go to the office. Apparently they have a sensor, that alerts them at home, how many people walked in per swipe. I didn't think I was doing anything wrong, I wasn't trying to be sneaky, I thought I was using the one-time guest pass. Apparently there is a stipulation that it is only to be used when there is staff there. Ok, well I didn't know that, honest mistake. So instead of trying to just resolve it (I suggested I will pay for the daily use fee for her & we would leave) but owner said no, she has to sign up for a whole membership plan. Well she lived over an hour away, obviously that wouldn't make sense for her to have a membership plan. Wound up just leaving and revoking my membership, was completely soured by the ordeal. Now that I'm a little older and been to more gyms (I travel for work so quite a few of them), I realize now how badly the owner handled the situation. I get he's trying to run a business, but to come screeching into the parking lot on a Sunday night at like 8/9 PM, come into the gym screaming at me in front of other gym goers and my girlfriend at the time, and then being completely unwilling to realize it was just an honest mistake and be understanding is a bad look for the ownership. None of the gyms I've been to in the years since have I had an issue with ownership, or vice versa, and they've all been more than reasonable/understanding when it comes to unique situations.
Despite this whole ordeal, the gym (at the time at least, haven't been back since) is nice and it's better than any chain gym you could go to in the area. Pricier, but it's worth it for the clean, riff-raff free gym that isn't ever too busy you have to wait for equipment. Just make sure you double-check any fine print stuff or you'll make an honest mistake and have to go the...
Read moreI've been due to review AJF since I've started back in June 2024. But today was the reason I got to this review. Here's the TLDR review and my story below it.
TLDR: Nice clean atmosphere. Very good gym for all levels from beginners to advanced lifters. They have plenty of useful equipment (power racks, punching bag, benches, etc) as well as a decent amount of your usual gym cardio machines, etc. A little pricier than most chain/commercial gyms but all for good reason and really not much more than your "black card". They are truly 24/7 everyday of the year. Secured key fob for entry. Never really a wait for machines. None of the silliness you sometimes find at other gyms. I really am glad my girlfriend and I started coming to this gym. It fits my needs and lifestyle. And they're upgrading facilities soon! Thanks AJF for everything 🙏
Come check them out with a tour!!
My story: I haven't had too many interactions with one of the owners, Joe. The few interactions were enough to know he's a good guy who wants to provide a clean, safe atmosphere for gym goers. But Denise, is why I got to this review today. She is also an owner I believe and manages the gym most days I'm there. She does a great job keeping the place clean, managed, and all with a friendly personality and a smile. All my encounters have been super positive and fruendly. But today. Today, she saved me big time. I live about 30mins away and can sometimes be forgetful, forgot my fob. She still allowed me to still get my workout in despite couldve had me go get my fob. What was stressing me out big time became a small, yet impacting gesture. Most will find it silly. But I wanted to shout her out. Thank you Denise!...
Read moreI went there to sign up this morning and the lady was rude. I tried to get in to sign up but you have to be a member to get in. I was standing at the door and one of the execisers open the door to ask me what I want. The lady started yelling on the person for opening the door. I told the lady I was there to try to sign up, and she says that you have to make an appointment to sign up. she says I can sign you up right now, but I told her I;m not interested if you treat your...
