I recently had the pleasure of accompanying my 8th-grade students on a field trip to the Pima Air and Space Museum, and I can confidently say it was nothing short of awesome. From start to finish, the experience was marked by excellent communication, a seamless check-in process, and knowledgeable guides who went above and beyond to enhance our visit.

The Tucson Pima Air & Space Museum isn't just a museum; it's an aviation pilgrimage. From the moment you arrive, the sheer scale of the collection is breathtaking. The museum's diverse collection spans decades and continents, showcasing everything from the humble Piper Cub to the colossal B-36 Peacemaker. What truly sets the Pima Air & Space Museum apart is its accessibility. You can get up close and personal with these magnificent machines, peering into cockpits, walking beneath massive bombers, and imagining the daring feats of the pilots who flew them. The indoor exhibits are equally impressive, providing context and depth to the outdoor displays. The docents are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, eager to share their insights and answer any questions. The "boneyard" tour, included in the admission, is a must-see. Seeing the vast expanse of retired military aircraft at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) is a surreal and humbling experience. So much to see and lots of history to learn! (If you get a membership, you can also go see the Titan Missile Museum nearby which is awesome, and was even more of a hit for our elementary aged boys than the Air & Space Museum! Membership also lets you see the Military Vehicles section, but we didn't see that yet.) I'm young enough to put too much stock in a place's website sometimes, but while the Pima Air and Space Museum website is a bit dated and not necessarily kept up to date on ongoing events, it's well worth a visit. It gets very hot and much of it is outside, so plan around that; visit in the morning or at a cooler time of year. The outside tram tour is $10 per person and very worthwhile, if you aren't already visiting with an aircraft expert! We went with a few elementary school kids and they were very done by the end of the visit, while the adults were still thoroughly enjoying all the plaques and stories, but there's a mini playground by the restaurant, and they have a few aircraft set up for the kids to climb into for photos and to look closer at the knobs and switches in the cockpit, and the kids loved that (see photo). The cafe food was good, with enough options quickly ready at the grab-n-go section. We specifically visited during a time to see SOFIA which was wonderful, but you have to check the schedule for that because it's limited availability. Super interesting to learn and see the NASA plane and telescope info if you're able to visit when they have it open! The gift shop has lots of fun options, with lots of great choices for apparel and toys. Overall, if you have any aircraft/aerospace interest, or WW2 history interest, this place is fantastic and you could easily spend 2 days wandering through and seeing each item.
