First time visiting this new museum foam by the Pima Air and Space museum. Was a very nice experience. It is a work in progress, and they have big plans for the property, including a driving course and dynamic exhibits. But for now, mostly static pieces from all war periods. Having lived through half of the Cold War, it was moving to stand next to and be able to touch tanks and vehicles used in wars I remember. There's something about the connection that's made through time when you can actually touch a piece of history, and allow it to flood your memory.
It's a nice, self paced museum. I look forward to what the future holds, and for guided or audio tours as they get more pieces. What's nice, is you can get a museum bundle that gets you access to both the Tucson Military and Pima Air museums and a tram that takes you back and forth. We went during their summer nights, started at 17:30 and stayed till 20:30 seeing both museums. You really need all day to see both comprehensively, but we go down regularly so we hit what we wanted to see at night. It...
Read moreA fantastic selection of vehicles ranging from tanks to trucks and all kinds of support vehicles in between. And while most of the collection is U.S. made vehicles there is a fair bit of representation of vehicles from other nations as well! It is a fairly small collection at the time of this review but you can tell the museum is still in its early stages and is planning to expand its collection in the future. The museum interior is very well lit, the vehicles are well maintained and plagues give a good amount of information. The only complaint I had was that I wish the plagues would talk more about each specific vehicle's history and how it came to be in the museum. I would have loved to know the history of that specific T-34 among other vehicles...
Read moreThe Tuscon Military Vehicle Museum is a small but well curated collection of historic WWII vehicles from the U.S., Britain, and others as well as some vehicles from more modern conflicts. The centre pieces are the M88 Hercules, M1A1 Abrams, and Buffalo MPCV. Seeing all three MRAPs next to each other is very cool.
While not offered during the summer when I visited, they do offer rides or drives in a handful of vehicles like the British Scimitar light tank and Comet cruiser tank.
A very clean, up-close experience with some of the most prominent vehicles of the...
