Definitely add if visiting the Arch Rock. Due to the layout, the Heart Rock feels more open and enjoyable to sit and relax as it crowds less and can continue to view from a distance. It is also fun to look around and find other figures on rocks along the trail. We saw a donut, a fist, and more along our walk. There is no parking in the campground for in & out hikers, you can park along the road north of the camp entrance or a parking lot a tad bit further north. Rangers are in and out of the campground. Read moreAbout a half mile off the road in Joshua tree, you can hike to the arch rock trail. The path is well marked with stones and small signs. You get to another sign suggesting that the arch rock trail then goes both left and right. Go to the left for a few minutes and bam, you see heart rock. We got there just as the sun was setting and the desert started to pop with brilliant colors including heart rock glowing in the orange sunlight. If you time this right, the home back should offer you a crazy rainbow of desert...
Read moreThe heart rock is a cool rock to check out and take a pick with. It's about 12 ft high and 10 feet wide or so. The hike there is relatively easy and short. About 1 mile or so from the parking lot.
Although the rocks around it are even more fun to scramble on and jump around. Lots of cool rocks to climb. This is very close to arch rock, which is a little closer and a bit to the right from the trail.
