Kids showing up all night long. We parked at the end of the cul-de-sac thinking it would be private and quiet, but it was near the trail leading to the one major arch in the park. They were kids in groups showing up all through the night to do night hikes, which is not supposedly even allowed, to do whatever out there. They were loud and rude and walked right through the campsite. The Rangers came by in the afternoon to tell me to put my dog on leash as it was standing in my campsite doing nothing, but come night they are nowhere to be found in did no policing. We got very little sleep for those two nights and had a horrible experience. If you want to have a chance to sleep there, make sure you camp at the beginning of campgrounds near the toilets. White tank is an amazing place to hike around behind the campsites among all the rock formations, though, if you can do without sleep. Your best bet is to reserve a site early in Jumbo rocks and stop by white tank to go to the arch and...
Read moreThis was my first time camping in Joshua Tree and I specifically chose White Tank for its small size because I enjoy a less crowded experience when I camp. I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and found half the campsites were empty. I chose site #11 and was glad I did. The second night provided me with a neighbor in site #10, but they were pretty quiet and the huge boulder separating our two sites meant I couldn't even see them. ||From my site I had a pretty expansive view of the surrounding desert which gave me the illusion of being alone with my thoughts. Loved it. Plenty of Joshua Trees to see and walk among and a lot of boulders in and around the campground. I found the campground to be pretty peaceful overall and it provided me with a great first-time experience of Joshua Tree....
Read moreThe willow campground is a new loop for tents and popup campers and is a beautiful campground. However, weekends it is a hangout for young locals looking to get drunk and party in the desert. The loop desperately needs a loop host onsite as quiet hours are a complete joke. I've been coming to white Tank for the last four years to camp at this time of year and usually stay in the family campground loop but wanted to try out the new willow campground. Won't come back, at least on weekends due to the rowdy behavior. I'm writing this at 1:20 in the morning and for the second weekend in a row there's no sleep to be had thanks to the drinks partying. Come during the week, but stay away Friday...
